I’ve worn the 30-day extended wear Air Optix Aqua Night & Day brand for about a year now (wore the Focus Night & Day for a few years before that), but my eye doc just told me I have to switch to daily lenses, because I was having some kind of allergic reaction. I didn’t have many problems with the old ones, but when they switched them over to Air Optix, they added some kind of lubricant that I think irritates my eyes. Anyway, my doc gave me these Acuvue TruEye dailies, and so far so good. My questions are: -Does anyone wear these, and if so, how do you like them? -If you accidently sleep in them (or any daily lenses if you don’t wear these), is it really bad, or ok once in a while (i.e. you get hammered and forget to take them out). I’m going to hate changing them every day, but I guess it beats glasses for me. I may do Lasik eventually, but probably not until next year…any stories about that would be good too. Thanks
Here’s a heartwarming story about Lasik - from an Optometrist originally from China. Someone got Lasik done and was initially very pleased with the results. After a few weeks the man felt like there was something in his eye all the time. Evetually it got so bad that it felt like there was a whole lot of sand in his eyes and anytime he opened his eyes he felt like he was in a sandstorm. He had to give up his job as a computer scientist and stayed hope and became severely depressed. He eventually comitted suicide as he could not take the suffering as a result of the surgery anymore.
Thanks…yeah, I’ve heard generally positive things from my friends, but a few negatives here and there. Kind of scary because once it’s done it’s done. Tough call.
I’ve worn contacts for years and had many drunken passouts while wearing them. You’re not going to go blind wearing your contacts for a 48 hour period. Taking your contacts out allows the cornea to “breathe” and rehydrate. It’s also good practice to remove them because bacteria and other harmful agents can be rinsed away when you store the contacts. If you wore contacts for a super-extended period of time they could potentially affect the curvature of your eye and your vision. I put a drop of eye lubricant in each contact when I put them in. Works wonders.
the problem with laser surgery is unknown long term effects. No one really knows what happens 20+ years out

I wear the Acuvue daily ones and never had problems with them; why does it bug you to change them daily? You just take them out of the box and put them on, no difference from the 30 day ones imo… They are designed to be worn about 24hours, so if you put them on in the morning and get hammered you should be ok the following morning, not a recommended practice though. I think the daily ones are easier to use, you just throw them away afterwards, no need to care about putting them back, cleaning or being careful because you do not use them the next day. If you get drunk, you can just take them out and throw them on the floor before passing out on the couch Laser is ok, none of my friends who had it done complained, I can’t get it because I have like-2 and you need -3 or less otherwise they won’t correct it (in Europe, no idea about the US)
My problem is, my eyes are terrible (-7.00 in each eye), so when I take them out I can’t see without glasses. I hate glasses because then my peripheral vision sucks. I loved the 30 day lenses because I only had to change them once a month and could wake up seeing clearly every day. I’ll get used to it though. And it sounds like it won’t be that big of a deal if I sleep in them once in a while (not planning to, but nice to know incase I have to or forget). I’m still on the fence about Lasik…we’ll see I guess. Thanks all.

you mean you would leave them ON for 30 days? yikes… sure that is ok? anyway if that is the case, switching to daily ones is a big change I never had any problems, been using them for 3 years now; mine are 1-day Acuvue Moist (just looked, -1 and -2.25) can see without them when reading/using the computer, owing to the -1 making up for the other one I guess If I were you I’d go for surgery, it’s done in less than an hour and after two-three days you are as good as new

My mom has -9.00. I put her glasses on one time and thought I was drunk.
Yep, I’m pretty blind w/out them! Wow, -9.00…that’s the worst I’ve heard of I think! Andreea- yep, the Air Optix Night & Day are FDA approved to wear for 30 days straight. They worked great for me for a long time, but apparently when they changed from Focus to Air Optix and added some kind of lubricant they call Aqua (it’s more like KY warming jelly though), it messed up my eyes. Occasionally I’d take them out and give them a cleaning, usually after the beach or mowing the lawn, but otherwise you can leave them in all month.

Have you checked to see if you can still get the old version online or overseas?
I wore 30-days lenses for years, the ones you take out each night and clean. They irritated my eyes eventually. The doctor recommended operation. My friend recommended daily lenses, and since then I wear Bausch&Lomb for years, and never have had any problem, no irritations, no infections. To take them out is just 1 second, if I forget to take them out, I do that in the morning. Much more hygienic then 30 days ones, I would not even think of downgrading to those now.

Now I wouldn’t even be allowed to buy them because of the way my eyes reacted to the other ones. My doc told me dailies or nothing. I don’t mind the dailies so far, but I just worry about going away and forgetting them or something. And here in FL, you can’t leave a pair in the car during the hot months or they won’t make it. Not the end of the world though.

Those did not work for me at all, irritated my eyes like crazy, after 1 week I had to change. Guess you just have to try out and see what works for you. I’d still go for surgery though, if they agreed to do it for me:( in Tokyo it’s like only $2K for one eye, less than what you’d spend on daily lenses in one year Has everyone tried colored ones? I know you’re mostly guys and less into that kind of stuff, but like for Halloween or something Was wondering if they feel any different
Andreea Yes, it’s very important to try each brand, and at least here one can get pairs of major brands for free to try. I tried Acuvue, and it doesn’t work for me, it jumps out of my eye, as it’s too big. More than 2000 per year on daily lenses is crazy, I spend like 250 euros or something. I order them online with free shipping. Colored ones? Never tried. I heard Paris Hilton badly damaged her left eye because she wears them too often. The eye is only half open. Not sure if it’s true, that’s what they say on the gossip news.
Including consultations/eye-drops/lenses it does go to 2000… My eyes get really dry, and I have check-ups monthly to get new lenses, clinic policy. There are clinics where you can buy for years with the same prescription, but I have long nails and don’t take the lenses out properly even after these years so I kind of need the check ups. Where do you buy yours? Mine are about 38$/box, so at least 76$/month, even if I didn’t spend on anything else it would be a bit over 900$/year…
I buy at lensbase.es, but they also have lensbase.com where there are various locations. B&L are cheaper, I think, it’s now 250 euro per year, i.e. 720 lenses, (I just buy for the whole year, to worry less about this, but there are also additional discounts the more you buy). The boxes are bigger, 90 lenses per box. The price changes sometimes, actually it’s getting cheaper and cheaper, around three years ago I paid around 300 euros for half a year if I am not mistaken.
