Cost to paint my house...?

Just had a quote to paint the inside of my house. £6k!!! Dude wants £6k and said it will take 3 weeks.

It’s a 4 bed victorian terrace and includes all the woodwork, sanding etc. But seriously!!..

4 bed victorian terrace in central London? Baller!

If the person who is quoting you isn’t Polish, you’ll be overpaying.

I don’t have any idea what painters charge in the UK, but that’s a very reasonable quote here for an entire house.

Maybe you can negotiate him lower, but that sounds pretty reasonable to me.

With sanding and wood work, yeah, that’s reasonable. That’s the part that’s really costing you. And its much harder to repair any damage to your likely plaster walls vs modern wallboard. Paint itself isn’t cheap if you’re doing quality stuff. I just did my own basement development (under 1,000sqft) and I spent nearly $1k in materials. Multiply that for a full house and add in all your wood stains and sanding and repair materials and he may be $3k in materials on a job like that.

The quality of the paint could make a big difference in the total cost. Do your homework and don’t get cheap with the paint.

From my experience, the pony murals are the most expensive. My advice is to only accept the finest quality of pony themed artwork for your home.

^ Lol

I started to paint a couple of walls once. I finished painting 1 of the walls, and didn’t finish the 2nd one. Far too much like work.

90% of painting goes very fast and is rather easy. The other 10% sucks balls and feels like it accounts for about 90% of the total time of the project.

top 2 painters or hacksaw

here i’d say getting some portuguese guy to do 2500-3000 sq. ft. for CAD$3,000 is normal but with no woodwork. 6k pounds seems high to me but london is much more expensive for most things.

If 90% of the time of your painting service is sucking balls, are you sure you hired painters and not “painters”?

That seems really low. Odds are they’re casing your house and will rob you a few days into the job.

For reference, I recently bought an 8000 sqft house in the NYC suburbs and it cost $25K to paint the exterior, so everyone who’s saying a few thousand bucks is low is probably right. Keep in mind it’s not as simple as just painting an interior wall, you need to do weatherproof coating, climb up high to nooks and crannies, etc.

8,000 sqft? 10 bedrooms?

You need to itemize this quote, brah. Have it in writing. Does it include supplies? If yes, are you getting a markup? Should be at cost plus a couple of hours worth of somebody’s time to get the supplies, otherwise tell them you’ll get your paint. Once you’ve taken that out of the equation, the rest of it is just hourly wage calc. 3 weeks x 5 days/week x 8 hours/day = 120 hours. Is it one guy running this operation for 3 weeks or more people? If more than one guy for 3 weeks working on a 4 bedroom, are they using the frescoes on the Sistine Chapel as a source of inspiration? If one, and assuming 2k of supplies, then 4k/120=33 GBP/hr. Does he have a law degree? If not, ask him to cut this in half.

I would not go too cheap on the painting. A poor paint job makes a difference.
