I have terrible handwriting. I have written in cursive ever since I was in the 3rd grade and it has been a crutch of mine because many people have difficulty reading it. Now that I mostly type on a daily basis, my handwriting has sort of converted into a hybrid between print and cursive, but is still difficult for most to read. I am concerned that the graders for LIII will have a hard time reading my essay answers or that I will be so concerned about the legibility of my answers that I will write too slow to answer all the questions. Has anybody else been fronted with this problem? The state of Indiana is smart to take cursive out of their elementary curriculum!
I have really pretty handwriting in cursive.
then be smart enough to practice writing, cursive or otherwise. more importantly concentrate on figuring out HOW MUCH is ENOUGH. also follow instructions on WHERE to WRITE. (I am not writing this to belittle anybody, so please do not get me wrong). Most of level III essay - is not an Essay in that sense of the word at all. It is a couple of sentences, mostly bullet points. Additionally - there is a specific place to write the answer - either the template provided, or on ruled blank pages that FOLLOW the question asked. So make sure you are taking care of the above in your responses. CFAI has also written many times over that no handwriting is bad enough that they cannot read what you are trying to say. If you still think your handwriting is really bad, now is the time to practice. Instead of using a computer to “TYPE” use pad/notebook/paper and pencil/pen and WRITE while you study. more practice will get you better prepared for this.
Yo son I would not scribble in cursive. Don’t be like AI, practice.
PalacioHill same boat as you, also I have very poor spelling. My poor handwritting got me to only write in Microsoft Word and use spell check. Ten years of never touching a pen, I can’t even spell my name right. Will work on it all year…
cursive this
My 2 cents: pick your writing instrument carefully. A gel ink pen with a wide body will let you write faster without incurring writer’s cramp, unlike those crappy, thin-bodied ballpoints.
I’m willing to bet that I have some of the WORST handwriting on this forum. For L3 prep, I practiced writing as much as I could, and it just simply wouldn’t get better. Come the day of the exam, my handwriting was “normal”, but stress and the fact that you have much less time than you think, made my morning session handwriting horrendous. I passed. Seriously, it’s not a big issue. Graders by the way, only grade one question…over and over…and over…and over. They know exactly what they are looking for. If it’s there, no matter how bad it looks, they’ll be able to see it. Focus your efforts on learning material…not having pretty handwriting.
Thanks for the advice. That makes me feel a lot better!
I write everything in CAPS. It has become a real handicap. I started doing it when taking study notes because I wanted them to be very clear, but not I cannot stop writing in caps. When I make a conscious effort not to, I still accidentally throw capital letters in there.
