Hi, I figured that with CAIA gaining recognition (Or so I assumed) more people will start to post on these forums… But this forum’s so DEAD! I guess people don’t take CAIA as seriously? or it’s not gaining popularity as I had assumed?

It is gaining popularity but it is still miniscule compared to the CFA in terms of candidates and charterholders. I earned my charter last year and my member number was in the four-thousands. I think there are close to 100,000 CFA charterholders. Also, at least to me, the nature of the material and the design of the exams did not lend themselves as much to collaborative discussion. I just read, practiced, and memorized in a recurring loop for each exam and mostly came on this site to commissurate.

icic that makes sense… I did go through Schweser already and the material seemed pretty dry and straight forward. Just out of curiosity… how long did you give yourself for level 1? and how many questions did you roughly do? did you use qbank etc?

I did six weeks for each level…basically starting after receiving that year’s CFA exam results. I probably put in 100-150 hours of study for L1; a few hours in the evening and one longer session on the weekend. I probably did 1000 questions (on UpperBank) but I’m sure Schweser’s QBank for CAIA is also good. Cycling through almost all the problems made the exam a lot less stressful since I had touched on all the topics.

Thanks ATH… I’ve already gone through the Schewser reading… and I’m going to start on the “official” book… Been just casually reading on my commute. I really can’t get myself to sit down and study after work like I did for CFA. I guess once I have about a month or so left, I’ll focus a bit more and study at home also and on weekends. Thakns again for all your help!

I think ATH’s answer hit the nail on the head. The CAIA designation may be gaining popularity and recognition, but only if compared to a few years ago when CAIA was almost unknown. In terms of candidates and name recognition and overall interest in the designation, CAIA currently trails CFA by a factor of about 25.

I don’t mind that its not as popular as CFA yet… I just hope that this thing picks up steam in a few years. I want to get this in before it gets popular as CFA and the exams start getting VERY difficult (and while its only 2 exams) I did start hearing more and more about it though… Some companies (even one of the big 4 accounting companies) are asking employees to take it.
