Darren Degraaf - Fixed Income - Wiley

So, I’m not one to typically bash a learning provider and I understand that everybody teaches in their own style and learns at a different pace, but how in the world do they have Darren Degraaf doing the Fixed Income portion of the level 2 material? The guy is terrible, the slides are actual slides versus the book (ive noticed many differences and skipping of sections - must be an old video) and the guy literally repeats word for word the information. Nothing expanded upon, no enthusiasm, etc… I’m in the first lesson of Fixed Income and already want to shoot myself. Its painful and confusing and he doesn’t help at all. How does Wiley have someone like this on their roster? There are so many better instructors from the company.

Anybody else know where I coudl find alternative videos or information regarding Fixed Income? Would like something to click here.

Andrew holmes covered the fixed income video for schweser online 2016.

I’m talking about Wiley. Andrew Holmes is very respected and a great teacher. I don’t have access to the schweser videos this year. I am using Wiley videos with Schweser Q-Bank.

You can get a one-week pass to a sample of Arif’s videos (click the IFT link on the banner above). There is one Fixed Income video available as a sample. And if you like them, you can order by individual section for pretty inexpensively.

I came here to search and see if I was the only one who found this guy incredibly annoying as well as a sub par instructor. And I swear, he needs to stop calling equations, definitions, problems etc “bad boys”. Seriously??

I really like the Wiley videos (used them for L1 as well) but Darren is making fixed income miserable.

I actually just started F.I and was thinking the same thing! Never got to finishing the 1st lesson, I’m thinking about resorting to the CFA material for FI, as Darren’s teaching style does not appeal to me. Would love to know how you tackled this mate, anything to save me from wasting my time watching the man’s lectures. I wish if Peter or Bill taught the FI.

I literally want to start watching his videos lol…

Peter is covered on live class recording by Fitch learning.

but i don’t think i have a time to watch it, holmes is enough as a ‘intro’ for me.

If you have access to Wiley’s online live lectures, Bill does those, and he started Fixed Income last weekend and will finish it up this Saturday. You can view the archives of past lectures if you can’t participate live. Bill has his own style and he’s no Olinto (who is?) but he does a nice job and his knowledge of Fixed Income concepts is very strong. The only critism I have on the live lectures is there isn’t much pen work to emphasize concepts or clarify calculations. I think it may be a technical limitation of the presentation software as the pen seems clunky. It’s also possible that I’m simply overly used to Basit and Peter’s vast use of underlining, circling and note/formula writing.

Yeah, I sit down for those. True, it could be that he does not have the luxury of time. I’m like a week behind from Bill’s schedule, so was hoping to use that as a review. The online classes are packed with info, so you don’t really get the depth you would like on a first read. Tried to check out the original books, but they are much more complicated and longer! I’m doing my best to give myself 40 days of revision, but I feel like I might have hit the first wall in my prep. FI is brutal, and I just don’t know how to tackle it. :S

I’m still limping along with the FI videos. I typically start the video just in case he says something of value and end up turing the volume down after the first “bad boy” reference.

From there I start doing the blue boxes and EOC questions and so far I’m grasping the material just fine.

Hopefully someone else covers FI in the 11th Hour review videos. Fingers crossed that it’s not that “bad boy” Darren. wink

Another little piece of gold… “stripping is always more fun than reconstituting”. surprise Such a bad, bad boy…

Amen to that !! I grasp the questions, yet im not feeling 100% abt the general topics, either way I gotta keep it moving cool
