Keep going strong, man. I graduate this month and didn’t get a job until last month. You’re doing it right if you’re getting to the final round. Keep chipping away and it’ll all click

Stick to your guns. Don’t settle for jobs, it’s a good market but getting a good research job can take nerves of steel while you wait it out and play the numbers game in a very competitive environment. Have you completed any CFA levels?

Keep your modeling and research skills sharp in the mean time, continue to follow markets and rates as well.

Track down alumni in the field and setup informational interviews over lunch or coffee. Ask about what they do, what issues they’re facing in markets, what their investment process looks like, if they have any advice, etc. Talking to a lot of people in the field pays off huge when you’re sitting across from one later in the interview process and it gives you talking points and familiarity to fall back on. Always conclude by asking if there’s anyone they could put you in contact with for another informational interview. Stay in close contact with those people as best you can, following up on any personal details they discussed like a vacation, etc.

Search outside on campus stuff by building a good linked-in account and monster or some other account and browsing the jobs offerings on both. See if you have access to the CFA jobline on the main website, its very useful. Also helps to go to some of the local CFA events and network there and try to setup coffee with people you meet. Local chapters often have job boards as well.

Work on your interview skills and your story relentlessly. Do mock interviews whenever you can. Also, think about how you’re positioning yourself. If you’re trying to be a research analyst, represent yourself as one and be confident in your approach. Make sure your resume presents you strongly.

look at vanday dude is clueless and soon to be BSD

keep charging ahead. when you give up, then you fail

In Vandy’s defense, his modelling experience really sets him apart from his peers. Most employers want to hire people who are comfortable with models and can do modelling themselves.
