i don’t see any difference between men and women in this case. the original question is trying to get help on picking out a suit (for work, i assume) and the point of doing that is to look better and give better impressions. what is the most direct way to know what kind of impression you are giving than to hear it from the people around you?
I interviewed with a startup for a CFO position a few years ago and the CEO said I blew it because I wore a suit … it was in Silicon Alley why didn’t dude just tell me not to wear a suit? lol
What about custom suits? Who would you recommend. I can never find a suit that fits me. I am an avid biker, because of this I need a 36 waist pants and a 42 jacket. Thinking of going shopping in the next month.
There is always a compromise, whether you want to please your employer or you want to be you.
if you need the job that bad, you would probably do some research, go to the office a day or two before the interview and see how people dress in and out of the office.
If you are in the position where you can pick who to work for/ work with, then just be yourself, they will have to work around your dress code if they want you that badly!
I think if you really want to work for Google (for example) you can probably find a way to see how people dress without going into their office.
And if, like you said, people from teh same office do dress differently, isn’t that already an indication of the range of acceptable dress code of the company?
And it’s 2017, what company doesn’t have a company website? there are usually pictures of the office or the team on the website and if there aren’t there’s always linkedin for the profiles of the people who you are interviewing with.
In your case though, i wouldn’t worry too much about your entire, working on basic deductive skills would benefit you more.
not everyone at google has the same dress code. i have a relative that works at google and he wears a suit but sometimes he comes in in jeans while a developer may wear flip flops or a t shirt while some quants i know wear pants and a shirt.
And you are not looking for a range you are looking at what your group wears so you dont show up in shorts or jeans while everyone is wearing a suit
wow wrong on so many levels. majority of websites have basic/generic photos of people in suits doing stuff and not the actual floor or team.
if there are pictures they are mostly head shots.
wrong on linkedin again. pictures shots on linkedin dont tell you anything. i know people that have headshots in a shirt and jacket but rarely wear jacket. another MD has his picture scuba diving but wears a suit everyday,
at this point if you are not trolling i feel bad for you if you are a real person. you said you work where , IB/PE? doubt it.
how can one person be so wrong so many times?
btw when you are trying to make a joke at someone please please please try to spell correctly otherwise just makes you look bad.
XOXO
p.s. looking forward to some more terrible advice T_T
It’s a general advice and a suggestion, there are always exception and there is no added value to point out the obvious. If you are interviewing as a crew member for an airline, i highly doubt they expect you to show up wearing what everyone wears, ie their uniforms.
PS* My advice may be terrible to you, but at least I am not a terrible person.
