Yeah. I’m buy-side and we see some investment managers who claim compliance.
oh yeah. in fact, i bet if we all coordinated as L3ers and put together a business plan incorporating GIPS into financial institutions across the globe, it would work

I’ve seen job listings which specify that they want candidates with “extensive knowledge of GIPS”.
Ya I used to work in the middle office at a large Buy-Side firm for a short time. The firm used an outside consulting agency for a lot of the work; practically everyone at that agency had a CFA. I did a bunch of GIPs related work… never again.
I work for a boutique quant shop in LA. We claim GIPS but we are not independently verified.

who said anything about verification being required to claim GIPS compliance? i said “claiming partial compliance” is a violation. i was not inferring that they were claiming…ehh nevermind
IMO, GIPS is absolutely needed in investment universe. But I don’t think we shall be tested for pure memorization of those provisions and effective dates of some provisions. Most important matters are what are the meanings of those proviosions and/or how to apply them appropriately. CFAI shall provide those provisions on the exam and only test candidates’ understanding of the provisions. I think most candidates forget those provisions soon after the exam. Candidates or charterholders can find those provisions easily if they are required for applications, then why we shall memorize them ? In my country, candidates of judge and lawyer are provided on the exams with a book listing all the laws/provisions/clauses so that candidates do not have to memorize them. The questions tested on the exams are what are the rationales of the laws/provisions/clauses and/or how to apply them appropriately in courts and in real life. By the way, I am always confused by the provisions (statements) in the Requirements and Recommendations indicated in GIPS. In many cases, they are very similar and it is very difficult for me discern them. Even worse are that “Must” is used for Requirements & “Should” is used for Recommendations make me further confused. What is the difference between “Must” & “Should”. To me, who’s native language is not English, they almost have same meaning ! I don’t know if you have such a problem.
I use GIPS when making breakfast, and sometimes when cleaning the windows, but only about twice a week at most and not really on weekends
i heard Bernie Maddoff claimed partial compliance with GIPS, on the second thursday of every other month… does anyone know how to PRONOUNCE GIPS? it is “jips” like Jim’s or is it “gips” like grips ? if its “jips” i have to say that would be a very, very unfortunate prononciation, given the instant association i have with “jip” as in rip somebody off…
