Soooo, I guess the planned roll-out of Level 3 vids isn’t going as planned. How shocking…
I never trusted they were going to get this out in time. The videos last year for level 2 were great, but they had trouble with some releases for sure. I didnt want to risk it for 3, i went with schweser.
Yup, me too, and I really enjoyed Elan last year. Schweser still the way to go in L3 IMHO
Same here. Last year Élan was very late in getting level 2 materials out.
Guess it’s time I give up on Elan.
Regarding Schweser vids, how long do the vids tend to be per reading? For Elan, they tended to be around and hour per reading, which while long was just right to cover the material to the depth required. I had a search on Youtube for Schweser vids for L3 and most of them seemed to only be about 10 minutes long. Their format seemed very different from Elan too (vids of the instructor instead of powerpoint with writing, and then a whiteboard with hands hovering over it, looked weird).
I havent seen any readings with 10 minute videos just yet, maybe those are small sample sizes? So far Ive only watched 3 study sessions worth but each reading’s video id sayis roughly 45 minutes or so, except for the big imporant ones (like the IPS guys) which were about 2-3 hours? I just finished institutional IPS and that was 2 videos, 1:30 each.
I liked them. Doesnt mean everyone would of course. But they are a good supplement to reading and doing questions either way.
who is them?
schweser or elan? confusing statements up above which does not allow to make the determination…
If you read the whole post, you should be able to understand the flow of communications. Elan doesnt have videos out yet, so any conversation regarding the actual videos would be about schweser.
Anybody have any commentary on the Schweser videos? I used Elan for L2 (having never used a video for studying before) and they were hugely helpful. Probably pushed me over the edge into passing territory. I can’t comment as to whether that was the quality of Elan or the video format just being a new and effective learning method for me.
I’m using Schweser texts and probably won’t crack the CFAI texts except to do all of the EOC and blue box questions. I don’t need somebody to read me the curriculum…I can do that myself. My hope is that, like Elan for L2, they’ll have new ways to look at material, will point out less intuitive topics, teach exam tips, etc…basically, I want them to add some value.
Any thoughts on whether Schweser does that or not?
