Entry into AM

I am currently in a roll where I look at SMA manager performance and reccomend manager’s to our clients (RIA’s). Looking at information ratios, attribution results, and running regressions in order to get a style adjusted benchmark to better analyze a portfolio’s performance. I also am consitently meeting with portfolio managers to go over their approach to investing, which I have found the most invaluable aspect of the job. This is my first job out of college from a state university. I guess my question here is whether this job would help me gain entrance to an asset management firm given I have an average unergrad GPA and a CFA Level 2 Candidate.

So you are at a fund of funds now. And you are trying to get a job being the one actually analyzing the stocks?

go apply at a brokerage, you can break in their, they just need you to have an understanding in the current market.

Depends on what you want to do in Asset Management?

I’m in NY in an anologous role, feel free to PM me with questions.

Yes, if possible. I have some experience as a buy side anayst for my schools endowment fund. I managed around $60,000 in the healthcare sector.

Hi I just wanted to follow up with you in regards to my current role. I am looking to go into equity research, but I understand it can be quite difficult coming from a non-ivy league. Would you reccomend a certain position that would lead to a role in ER?

You said you meet with managers alot, could always reach out to those managers and throw your name in the hiring ring.
