Is it possible to move internally in a BB to ER without going to NY? I am unable to move permanently at the moment but would be available for a few months of training. My BB has other offices and I am at a non NY office, in a middle office role. Anyone ever heard of this?

for ER, it generally will require you to be where your senior analyst is. Very rare cases associates are allowed to simply be accessible by remote.

You need to be where your Senior Analyst is.

So, if I understand, you work for a “BB” (which is a meaningless term nowadays), and your company has ER offices in NY and not in NY. If you get a job offer in an ER office outside of NY, I don’t see why you can’t work there. NY has the most finance jobs, but that doesn’t mean only NY has finance jobs.

OP: nah man you are big shot… Tell them to hook up a bloomerg terminal and company phone at your house because you will be working at home from now on.

My friend worked for some bank ER division, and his boss was some woman who somehow managed to negotiate to work from home. Anyway, their whole group was laid off…

lol, so you want to break into BB ER from MO but want to work from home.

Yeah this seems off

OP / If you want to get into ER just go with wherever they put you and take whatever they give you at least from the start.

What is the reason people don’t use the term Bulge Bracket anymore?

^ people still use it.

It’s supposed to mean the biggest, most profitable, and highest paying banks. But nowadays, times are harder, people are getting paid less, and these banks are not as desirable to work for as before. I think GS, JPM, maybe MS, still have some luster. But nowadays, everyone else is no better than Jefferies, Nomura, RBC, or other places that would have been considered second tier in the past.

okay thanks guys.

So where is the money nowadays? PE/HF?

plumbing

being born rich

plumber at 15 central park west. he probably does alright for himself.

Honestly, I wouldn’t enjoy the job as much if I were working remotely from my analyst. Unfortunately this has happened to me as I help another team ramp up, but I couldn’t imagine trying to learn the industry and do the work remotely. That’d be awful IMO

Yes - Hedge Funds. Good luck getting an interview or getting into one of them.

Thanks - at a fund now

So why did you ask the question? Are you thinking of going to PE or something?
