Does anyone have any advice about studying Ethics for Level 2?
On Level 1 was pretty straight forward. Here it seems that I need to understand the ancient Greek philosophy.

I think it is best to read cases carefully, know who is who, imagine their faces, what they did or said and make a mind map of violations. Do not rely on the question to point to a possible violation.
I find soft dollar and ROS most demanding.
OK. Sounds reasonable. Consider it as a role playing game. Thanks for suggestion.
Any other approach?
lol… It simply require time to read it, once you do that, i am sure you will be fine.
I have just done it. Yesterday started reading entire Ethics topic, today finished and took again all portal tests. It’s now above 60 %. Also identified key new topic which I need examine a lot, ROS. Many portal questions are exactly related to this topic. The good news that is covered by only few pages in CFAI curriculum.
I don’t follow you on Greek philosophy. Are you referring to R26 on Kantien Ethics, etc.? Far as I can tell, Ethics for L2 is just L1 Ethics + ROS, and there’s no way ROS is as complex as learning the full code and standards last year.
Kant was not Greek at all. LOL!
This was a metaphore. May be Russian classic instead,a stream of consciousness. This is my free interpretation of this kind of questions related to Ethics.
Oh I see. Ya, the topic test questions are hard, but the content itself is not very subtle. They just test a fairly obvious thing in a nuanced way.
I was shocked to see Kant and JSM or Jeremy Bentham or whoever the utilitarian leader was they profiled. Wasn’t sure if I missed Plato in my skim of reading 2.
Biuku
In which studying phase are you currently? I am making a review of entire material. It’s almost funny how things become clear after one round more. Anyway, it’ s real hard work with many sleepless night to meet determined deadline for last determined phase (doing mocks). I counted about 500 pages of wrtitten notes.
Have you cracked portfolio? I read the economics part R55 and i have no idea what is going on.
500 pages? Does that even qualify as notes?
I went through PM once and took all CFAI EOCs and portal topic questions. Planning this topic review at the end of next week (prior I have to repeat Corp. Finance, AI, FI and Derivatives).
Yepp. 350 are qualified notes and put them into the case (at least I am an accountant, LOL!) and rest is the scratch paper. Always writting while reading, helps a lot.
While repeating, I was practicing myself in queek reading since I’ ve been preparing L1. Seeking to stay focused only on key text and blueboxes within chapter. Each topic chapter has at least one key blue box, some have more. There are also key concepts inside chapter supporting text (Schweser highlighted it well). Of course I am doing it from Scweser notes with exception of Ethics which I was repeating and will repeat at least once again from CFAI curriculum. I am still in doubt if it would be necessary to examine some other parts of other topics from CFAI curriculum (eg.Econ). If it would so, I leave this to the end if it will be enough time for this.
Apart from ROS, what’s new in L2? Did they change soft dollars? I heard that they don’t allow soft dollars anymore in Europe? Is that true?
^There is a new MIFID regulative. About Soft dollars changes in EU, I have no idea. Cannot remember that I found anything about that fact in Curriculum.
@ Flashback, Finished first pass around March 5. Yes, going back over the tougher stuff definitely is revealing more. I just want to gain one major foothold in each – something I know I can reproduce, so the next phases become about building that knowledge in 50% of a reading, 60%, 75%. Have done some topic tests along the way, but moving into Topic Test-led study later this week. I feel like, till now, it’s been about learning a reading for it’s own sake. But I see Topic Tests as a chance to be more surgical – just to audit weaknesses and to go back into the curriculum to close them, but surgically.
My notes are spread across flash cards, notes, powerpoint and excel. Funny, was just looking at L1 – I would have like 30 flash cards for a study session. In L2, 50 flash cards for a single reading!
What is ROS
haha good one
I think that ROS will be at least 50% of Ethics on the exam day. It is just too much important this days.
You mean 1/2 of vignettes right? (there will be 2)
ROS=Research Objectivity Standards
WHere do you find more readings on ROS? There’s only 1 tiny section in the CFAI book.
