ethics question in a cover letter

Hi everyone,

I’m looking for a job and i’m studying for the CFA level 1. Some job ads say that having the designation or pursuing one can be an asset, so my question is, can i put

“I am currently pursuing a CFA designation and I will take the first level examination in December 2013 which will improve my investment knowledge.”

I don’t think it is an exaggeration or a misrepresentation (VII(B)) because i think it is straightforward. If i study finance, it will improve my finance knowledge but i dont know.

Thank you in adavance

You can definitely add that you’re pursuing the designation. I wrote that I am a Level I candidate in the CFA Program.

I’m pretty sure you cannot state “which will improve my investment knowledge” however, anywhere you’re applying will obviously know that without being said so it’s unnecessary.

taking notes, thank you.

Though i’m going to wait answers for more “experienced” CFA guy.

If you’ve enrolled for the December (or June) exam, you can say that you’re a Level I candidate.

I wouldn’t say that you’re pursuing the designation; that’s pretty meaningless. Saying that you’re a candidate (when it’s true) says something: you’ve made a commitment.

You cannot say that it will improve your investment knowledge. That remains to be seen.

Okay, thank you for your quick answer, i’m going to change my CL.
