Ethics Question - referring to the CFA designation

Tim Smith, CFA, Investment Consultant Having this on a business card is or is not a violation? Also, is the following statement a violation: I passed the 3 CFA exams on the first attempt, which places me in an elite category of exceptional chaterholders

try this once more, thanks guys…bump

  1. The designation is used to identify individual charter holders. 2) Can’t claim that you are an elite form of CFA. You either are a candidate or a charter holder. It is okay to state you passed all 3 levels on the first try, if it is true. However, it doesn’t imply that you know more than another individual that passed all 3 exams.

According to the CFAI the 2nd statement is fine. It was on a mock exam of theirs. They did however say the Tim Smith, CFA, Investment Consultant was a violation. Although I’m not sure why.

thegooddocta, which mock and which question specifically are you referring to? i’m surprised that (1) is a violation and (2) isn’t.

ehhhhh disregard, i read the question wrong…again

2 is definitely a violation. Passing them on your first attempt doesn’t make you better according to CFAI. Even though I personally think it does. 1 I am not sure since I see people putting John Doe, CFA, CPA so not sure why Investment Consultant would be a violation…
