Ethics: Required v Recommended

I didn’t see many questions on required vs recommended when I was going over the mocks…just a reminder for everyone to watch out for that. I think thats one of the best ways to get tricked easily.

I’ve been told NOT to expect these questions.

r u sure ?

that means L1 syllabus will come

who told you that?

That’s just what I’ve been told. A couple things on this… it did not show up in the 60+ EOCs from the standards. Or the add’l ethics readings. Also, just think about it. To me, making us know the difference in required and recommended is shining a light on what you really don’t have to do (B/c it’s only recommended). By knowing that action A is required and action B isn’t, I know that it’s ok to do B. If I just learn them all and put them in the same bucket, I’m likely to follow all of them.

That’s just my 2 cents. I’m not focusing on this at all. I know what the CFA wants me to do, and I’m not concerning myself with whether they require me to do it or just recommend it. I highly doubt we would get a question like Is John violating the standards b/c he only kept records 6 years with the answer being No, b/c 7 is only a recommendation.

hope you’re right !

This Required vs Recommended thing drives me nuts.

Some difference are trivial and some may be big. It’s hard to remember which both sets and be clear which items belongs to which set. However, on Scheweser mock it seems even the recommendation would make your choice wrong if you do not follow the recommended. That makes me think both sets are relevant and you also have to be clear which clause belongs to required or recommended.
