Extreme Work Experience Frustration

Has anyone else here experienced extreme frustration when dealing with CFAI regarding work experience submissions? I am normally one of the most calm people I know but I feel as though I am ready to blow a gasket and snap.

Yes, a lot of us have. Just keep trying and giving more and more detail each time. It helps to call/email and speak to an actual person. Tying LOS statements in to your experience descriptions has also been shown to help. GL and stay patient with them, you still have plenty of time since you still need to take and pass L3 (I’m assuming).

Actually, I have already completed L3- passed it this past June. The most frustrating part is that it was suggested that I go back and review the samples (which I had not done previousl), when reading them a few of the ones that were considered acceptable were nearly word-for-word identical to what I had submitted. I should have done a Chartered Accountant designation.

I’ll be resubmitting at the end of the month… I’m praying that this thing gets approved, otherwise I’ll have to restart the 2 month process for a third time. They make enough money off the curriculum and fees, can’t they pay more people to review the work experience submissions?! Brutal.

Glendronach- did they give you a reason for the original rejection of your work experience?

^Oh that sucks, try to get someone in their membership division on the phone or by email to help with the submission.

My story is pretty ridiculous. I originally applied for an affiliate membership when I had 44 months of experience. I work in the BO and stressed every little detail of my job that related to the IM process. I was approved for all 44 months and was sent an email from my local society to pay the annual dues. I decided to wait until I had 48 months worth of experience and then upgrade to a regular membership before paying the dues. When I reached the 48 month mark I tried to upgrade and the CFAI told me there was a computer glitch and I would have to reapply. I thought nothing of this since I was already approved for 44 months so I just resubmitted my application without changing anything. A few weeks later I saw that all my work experience had been denied this time around. I flipped out! I called the CFAI and spoke to a bunch of people. They told me that a new group of auditors looked over my application and they didn’t think my experience was relevant this time around. After a few days of arguing, they decided they would bring my case up in front of a panel. Luckily they finally decided that since they approved my experience the first time they had to approve it the second. I feel for you guys struggling with this process. My advice to anyone who has already passed L1 is to get this done asap. Do not put this off until you are done with L3 because if you have to re submit your app a few times, you don’t want it to hold up your charter.

I’m really feeling for you folks. So sorry to keep reading these kinds of threads and hear about the post exam agony. You are all done with the exams, but wait a minute…

Funny thing was that a couple of the items I listed were almost word for word tied to LOS’s (though I omitted the reference). For the resubmission I threw in a couple buzz words (NPV, discounted cash flows, etc.), but am also contemplating adding references to the LOS’s as well.

I can’t even figure out how to submit my work experience so you guys are ahead of me. Though I still have to pass L III… so not a high priority at the moment. Plus I’ve been in the industry for almost 10 years so figure I should have at least 4 years in there somewhere that qualifies. Does it automatically submit when you add it to your profile on their site? (This is all I did.)
