What do y’all think of this? Pretty interest nay?
Good farmland means you can raise the calves and chickens to be thicc…then sell for big $$$ profits. Please go all in and advice on results, tank.
I don’t think you’re actually operating a farm here. It’s more like you are leasing it out to farmers and you’re getting a percent of their crap. Kind of like a royalty check.
Practice with FarmVille first just to get the hang.
no but seriously. dont your family own a farm or something. i am asking for a friend.
Farming has been a tough row to hoe (lots of hoes in this field Nerdy) the last better part of a decade with very rough margins. Just weak commodity prices and the low oil prices have hurt the competitiveness of ethanol (corn) which is like 40% of US demand and corn inventories have just been persistently high for a string of years. It is also a very specific business right, its almost imperative to have strong local knowledge of the land and tracks involved (their irrigation, NPK levels, etc) just like any other real estate. I think the central commercial farms have cornered the better parts of the tough market. My concern would be in controls and reporting (without knowing about this specific security) and how to ensure where in the waterfall you are and that you’re actually getting your proper claim. You also ostensibly have little direct insight into your assets and are probably as a result getting stakes in the bottom of the barrel.
In the end I just think it’s so much tougher to know what you’re getting that it’s almost easier as an outsider to just trade commodities if that is your view but for me, I tend to just stick to equities at this stage. My family has historically had a lot of farm exposure including significant tracks of land in the mid west that they lease. I loosely follow it but my understanding is that while not a bust, the income there has declined some of those positions have been wound down. I’m just generally concerned when small sectors like this try to tap bottom of the waterfall retail investors and I wonder why things have become so difficult for traditional financing means.
my co worker said the same exact thing. fam owns 8m farm. fam was thinking of sellign it. i figure they can contact them lol. best way to sell.
Farming is probably responsible for the most ecological devastation of any industry globally, with very little benefit to humankind. The entire practice should be banned.
lol how should we eat?
Probably with our mouths . Humans made it pretty far without farming, and many still yearn for those old ways. From obesity to pollution to deforestation, farming has been a disaster for the human race.
hunter gatherer baby!!! seems inefficient. more people, better progress! ELON MUSK will take us to space and ultimately that is the key to survival!
I concur with Franky. But, if we go back to the pre-agrarian society, billions will die before we arrive at a sustainable equilibrium number of humans who can live strictly by foraging. If I’m on the deciding committee of who lives and who gets left behind, I’m in.
Farming business seems rough. Pass. I’m doing residential in cheap markets
I’d rather live a pretty chill and relaxed life and die in my bed when I’m 90 and do some harm to the environment than enter the brute hierarchy of mother nature where me and my homeboyz need to battle with bears and wolves to get our daily food.
theres also 2 farms reits that have done absolute ■■■■ since they ipo’d in 2013. lol
You could just hunt and eat the bears and wolves though. We could build weapons to kill them, and then to ensure we could eat tomorrow, we could breed chickens and cows and cultivate the land for the wheat…oh wait a minute, we’re back here again.
God Damn Swan I love it. You’re literally an encyclopedia. And you like shooting guns. Gotta let me smoke a bowl with you someday in Denver man.
Think about it, very few farm these days, but those who do destroy rainforests and create corn syrup to drive obesity to record levels. These selfish farmers should be banned. Too bad all politicians are suckling at Big Farm’s teet. It can only be fixed from the demand side.
You’ve inspired me. I’m cutting my daily intake to 5 Cokes from 10.
