PB&J sandwhich(es) for lunch always worked for me. Not too heavy so I wouldn’t feel sluggish and gave me energy for the afternoon session.
I’ll stick with my levels I & II routines: - stress myself up with the funky stuff I’m not sure about on the day before exam so that I end up with 3 hours of real sleep. - Coffee so that I waste time with minimum 2 pee breaks per exam session Worked not too bad so far so I’ll stick with it.
This thread is much funnier than I thought it’d be. Ideal breakfast: Make myself bacon, eggs, whole-wheat toast. Tabasco the $#%^ out of everything. Iced coffee in a travel mug to take down to Javits with me. Likely breakfast: Just the iced coffee. If I’m really running late, it’ll be bought from Dunkin’ and not even homemade. Ideal lunch: Tuna or chicken sandwich, sourdough bread, cheddar cheese, lettuce and tomato from a nearby deli that charges too much, but at least everything is fresh. Likely lunch: Slice of pizza or pre-made awful sandwich from a vendor in Javits where they charge too much, and it looks like the food was run through a dishwasher cycle*. Sigh. *Dishwasher setting = Normal cycle, hot dry setting
I always went with this: 2 Cliff Bars 2 NOS Energy shots Quiznos for lunch…
Breakfast - Schweser Notes Lunch - CFAI textbooks Enough said.
There is a drink called Neuro Energy which I have found to be pretty good at promoting mental stimulation; seems to contain just the right amount of caffeine along with some other good stuff. Caffeine has been proven to promote alertness and increase mental as well as physical performance so I wouldn’t worry much about interference with your bodies’ ability to metabolize glucose; those studies were specifically related to individuals with Type 2 diabetes. Will be living off my glycogen stores until lunch at which time I will probably eat something containing a good bit of protein and complex carbohydrates. I might have some soymilk as well; it’s a phytoestrogen and positively regulates mood in males. Don’t eat too much or you will get a good dosing of postprandial somnolence.
BreakfastLunchDinner: A line of coke, a redbull and a yogurt parfait
Breakfast - bowl of cereal, 6-8 cups of coffee (aka “the norm”) Lunch - chicken Caesar salad, 2-3 beers (worked for the previous two levels, no point in stopping now)
What is the best “brain-food” if there is such a thing? I will try to eat this during the exam.

I saw a dude last year at the World Congress Center/CNN Center crush 2x34oz brews (5.5 beers) over lunch and head back for L2! I salute you sir! Maybe pre-gaming for the PM session is the way to go?!? I need to get in on this before they start breathalyzing candidates returning from lunch haha.

Were they bottles, or what was he working with? Natty? Busch Light? Bud Ice?

Hah. That’s ridiculous. I wonder if he was inspired by that ethics example where a portfolio manager’s colleagues know not to ask him anything after lunch in case he’s been on the sauce!

I take the exam in Philadelphia - the bar where I go is a micro brewery (right across the street from the convention center) and I get their pale ale, which is strong as hell and comes in 22 ounce glasses. Something like 9% alcohol or something like that, so it’s equivalent to wine, I believe. I’ll tell you what - I’m a large man and have a ridiculously high tolerance, but after 40-60 ounces of 9% beer, even I feel a little “better”, and WITHOUT A DOUBT it helps me in the afternoon session - lot less second guessing, which I think is a good thing. Left the afternoon session at about 3:15 last year.
I will probably eat something with very few sugars/carbs in it, as I can crash off of the sugar high/low. Protein-based foods help you feel fuller, longer, so I will stick to those – probably like some eggs for breakfast w/ a sugar-free Red Bull. For lunch, I will probably try to eat light and have a primarily protein-based meal again, probably something like a chicken salad or something like that, with a lot of water. Also, for the past couple months I’ve been taking an Omega-3 and Vitamin D supplement 3 times a day. Its supposed to help brain development and mood – we’ll see if it works!
I would back off from too much water, though. I don’t want to waste 5 minutes of test time by going to the John.
Breakfast - just some cereal and coffee, maybe a nutri grain bar Lunch - always bring a ton of sushi - I find it energizing and it doesn’t fill me up no matter how much I eat. Maybe a half a shot of 5 hr energy to get me going again.
I’m through, but I always went with the below: 1) Bran muffin, coffee. 2) Banana, coffee. I find when I don’t eat much it actually keeps me sharper, but I think you probably should not mess with your normal routine. So if you smoke cr@ck or shoot h wait until after the test to quit…trust me.
^ +1 This will also help you ease up the exam-day tension.

It’s just hard to piss sometimes though with the proctor staring at you
