FRM Study material - schweser vs BT vs Christian Cooper

Hi

I am going to take the FRM exam in May 2016 and wanted to know from recent exam takers which study course/material they purchased?

I recently found FRM study course by Christian Cooper and it claims to be from a practitioners point of view.

Feedback will be appreciated :slight_smile:

hi … I am using the FRM study course provided by Mr. Christian Cooper and his study material is the best as far as i am concerned, it’s precise and has made learning for the FRM more interesting and easy and even someone who comes from a non math ground like me has been able to understand tricky concepts without any trouble

Besides this, the excellent support from mr Cooper after i purchased the course is something which made me realize that i made the right choice… also the Question bank softwae is just amazing… thousands of questions…which is unparalled when it comes to FRM test prep…

Hi,

I am TapashDeb. I am planning to take FRM part 1 May 2016 exam. Does anyone has started studying?

Thanks

Tapash

Schweser has very good question banks.

Bionic Turtle is very practical and calculation oriented which is good. If you get the full package with videos and spreadhseets, well thats, money!!

Schweser is a good summary and includes a lot of little information here and there- more than bionic, however it can be very verbose. Bionic is well laid out, with large fonts for formulas.

Hey gang, just a heads up that Wiley inked a deal with Christian Cooper to power Wiley’s FRM Review Course for 2016 and beyond. The 2016 content will be out in January starting with Study Guide, Video Lectures and Practice Questions. Full courseware to follow midyear.

@vimesh13

I recently came across the sample FRM study notes and videos by Christian Cooper, and they seem really good. In review of some other Exam prep providers like Schweser and BT…out of the three I was really impressed with Christian Cooper’s sample stuff. But I’m trying to find out more about the package that is available but I’ve hardly heard anyone talk about it.

Did you have to wait for the study material to be updated or was it all provided at the beginning? I’m also trying to find out it’s one set package or are they different packages like the way BT and Schweser have alternative packages.

Hi Vimesh13,

Are you based in India…? where can you get the Christian cooper material in India.

Thanks

Kavita

@ Livvi, wehre did you see the sample FRM Study notes and videos? I’m trying to decided which supplement materials to purchase, I reached out the Wiley and they advise Part 1 will be ready by end of Feb. 2 months before the exam doesn’t quite cut it for me.

@ temowo…Really! The end of February? I found the sample stuff on the efficient learning website in the FRM section. It isn’t very much, there is just a sample study guide, sample practice questions, and a sample video which was posted on youtube on the official Wiley channel. Plus there is the option to download the cheat sheet.

I’m surprised you heard February, because on the website they do have that Part I will be released in January (and Part II in March). I’ve been trying to find out more about the cost etc for the package but I haven’t heard or seen anything as yet.

In the post “Christian Cooper switch to Wiley Efficient Learning” Christian Cooper himself said that shipping for Part I will start on January 27th and that their hoping to launch Part II in March/April. So I really was expecting that the study material will be released sometime this month.

The end of February really is too long a wait, that would really suck because so far I was really impressed with the quality of what I’ve seen so far, even though it wasn’t alot and I’m really leaning towards Wiley’s study material.

Check out the post I mentioned above, you’ll see the post Christian made himself about the material.

@ Livvi. Thanks. I read the exact same thing from the post re:Jan 27th release date, which is why I’ve been holding out. But when I reached out to Wiley directly(via chat to ask for pricing or package structures they advised that they don’t have the information as yet but it should be out by end of Feb. I really need to purchase my supplimentary sources asap and I was leaning towards Wiley but at this rate, I may be going with BT.

@ temowo I’ve actually been holding out as well…just like you I may have to go with BT, I had initially wanted to go with BT’s material but the study notes didn’t seem to have much depth and I was skeptical because they load the material as they go along…so you don’t have the full package available from the start (at least from what I understand). Hence one of the reasons why I was thinking about Wiley…uhggg…the end of February…really too long of a wait. I’ll definitely have to reconsider my options now.

@ temowo This is just an update to my previous comment…The package information for Wiley’s materials are posted on the website, as well as a product availability. The study guide print/ebook will be available from the end of this month for Part I, the lecture videos are supposed to available early february, and the practice questions will be available by mid march (ebooke), late march (print). Most of the Part II’s material will be available from April.

While the products aren’t available for purchase as yet…at least you’ll you have a better idea of the cost as well as when the material becomes available. Now I just have to decide whether I’m still going to purchase the GARP textbooks…hope this helps!!

@Livvi - thanks for this detail. I’m on the Wiley website and don’t see any information about cost. Would you please send the link? Thanks!

Everything is actually listed under the products section on the efficient learning website…I’m not to sure if posting the link is against “community rules” so I’ll just PM you.

I had to dig a bit deeper on Wiley’s website, but I see the pricing now. Thanks!

@ Livvy, thanks for the update.

I’ve been awol for a few days but back in action. I really need to kick start my revision. I have the Garp books by the way. Somehow I feel a lot better at least knowing that I will go through the materials once. At this rate if Wiley release by end of month I will purchase the ebooks, if it’s pricing right otherwise I will go with BT. I read a few of the sample BT chapters and I must say they were easy to follow and are almost a high level summary of the GARP books. I’ve only started reading a few pages of GARP and there is a lot of content but it’s not as daunting as I thought it would be.

@Livvy found the pricing. Well tomorrow is the 27th, the stated date from Mr. Cooper himself, lets see if the website updates.

Slight shipping delay due to the Blizzard in the North East! Stay tuned

@Cooper.

Many thanks. I’m assuming there are delays all round is the eversion available for download?

The Wiley website is now saying "Part I FRM Lecture Videos, Study Guides and Practice Questions release March 2016. The link is http://www.efficientlearning.com/frm/products/part-1/

@Christian - is this true?
