Anybody watch Game Changers? I was so pumped after watching it, I immediately went to shop to see how much more plant based I could eat. Then I listened to Joe Rogan’s guest just destroy the movie as biased and bad science. Nutrition info is so damn frustrating. My bro gave me a book by Mark Hyman and he makes a ton of sense. But he’s big on coconut oil and MCL, while Harvard health says don’t touch the stuff…never know what to believe. Peter Attia is all about fasting, but that’s so not enjoyable or sustainable unless you enjoy the ascetic lifestyle.
I just want to stay heart healthy and keep off belly fat. So hard.
Yeah, my wife and I watched it and were seriously ready to give it a try. Maybe ease into it like Arnold suggests. Then a did a little research and the results seem iffy at best. Netflix documentaries (and all documentaries, really) are very biased which is a bummer because they have some great content. Just wish it was more balanced so I didn’t have to fact check everything myself. Kinda defeats the purpose.
He’s featured in the doc. He started doing no meat Mondays or something. People claim going plant based for just one day yields positive, immediate results. It’s unclear if he’s gone completely veggie-only but he clearly does like the philosophy behind it.
Makes sense – I’ve made a huge reduction in my meat intake (heh) for ethical/health reasons, but I’m sure having vegetables for a meal instead of steak & potatoes is a good start to dieting.
I think the documentary was pretty weak (a lot of netflix docs are very low quality IMO). It’s probably true that most people would benefit from eating a more plant based diet but those claims that the documentary makes? Oh my what a bunch of bullshit! Like that part where the dude claims that he went from maxing 8min in battle ropes to over an hour? Or how McGregor couldn’t keep up with his opponent because he was eating steaks when preparing for the fight?
If plant based diet did have such a tremendous effect on your performance, why hasn’t this been discovered decades ago? Olympic athletes have been looking to get an edge using steroids and doping for years, I’m sure they’ve tried tweaking their diet as well.
Arnold and Jackie Chan are producers. James Cameron from Terminator fame is also involved. Of course turns out Cameron s a major investor in several plant based food companies. Nothing wrong with investing in what you believe, but a little disclosure would be nice.
