good books to complement the CFA

Hi Guys, I’m shopping around Amazon.com and wondering if you guys have any good books you’ve read that complements the CFA (or any good finance books in general). If you could state the author and title this’ll be a great thread to see what we’re reading other than CFAI. Thanks!

CFA books are good enough. You might probably waste your time by reading too wide.

  1. principles of corporate finance brealey myers 2. The-Handbook-of-Fixed-Income-Securities by Frank Fabozzi 3. Valuations by ASwath Damodaran 4. Basic Econometrics by Gujrati

When genius fails Den of theives The intelligent investor None will really help you understand the CFA material but good finance reading none the less.

I like Mckinsey Valuation for equity and Fabozzi’s book for Debt Valuation

When Genius Failed is an excellent read. A nice semi-break from the material, but also an intriguing storyline. I would recommend this book over every other finance novel I have read if you are looking for a good, entertaining, story on the industry that is easy to read. Recently finished The Outliers which was OK. I am meeting 1 on 1 with a CFA here at work in a mentorship program my company has. He recommended “Financial Shenanigans” so I have ordered that and am on wait. For fun I just finished the new non-fic book about Pat Tillman “Where Men win Glory” and also just finished “Lone Survivor” which is another excellent bio. Both about men fighting in Afghanistan. You think this exam is tough, try Navy SEAL training son.

I found “Lone Survivor” to be a very moving story. Highly recommended.

If you liked that one you should read “Where Men Win Glory” or something like that. Pat Tillman’s story is quite amazing.

Inside the House of Money, Financial Shenanigans, bro, just do a search you can find it all there.

Like others have already mentioned. I find the following two books excellent. 1. Investment Valuation (Aswath Damodaran) 2. Valuation (Mckinsey)

Another book that I’ve been suggested is Investment Fables by Damodaran. Another few books that I like are Analysis and Use of Financial Statements - White, Sondhi and Fried - This book is even mentioned on the CFAI site for FRA. When Genuis failed Traders, Guns and Money - Satyajit Das - This book is hilarous, sarcastic, caustic and entertaining all at the same time. Mind blowing! One up on Wall Street - Peter Lynch The Warren Buffett Way - Robert Hagstrom The intelligent investor - Ben Graham I like the common sense approach in the last three books

Anyone read the match king ? i bought it from Amazon but haven t started it yet.

I used some of it for L1 review. http://pages.stern.nyu.edu/~adamodar/

“How to Build your Financial Worth by Being a BSD,” by R. Jeremy with special forward from J. Jameson. A bit graphic at times, but worth the read.

Is Damodaran’s-McKinsey book level 2 type stuff?

“Financial Shenanigans” is a great book, another book along the same lines is “Creative Cash Flow Reporting”. Both are highly recommended

Hi! I am also looking for a finance book that is not a textbook, but provides deep insight and can be breath-taking as well. Do you think that “The smartest guys in the room” is a good pick in this sense? Or would you recommend something else? Thanks!

Came across this book, anyone read it before? http://www.amazon.com/Partnership-Making-Goldman-Sachs/dp/1594201897
