Group Interview

What questions shall I ask when interviewing with a group of people, managers, Department managers, and peers?

Any suggestions?

“alrite boys, D sizes. who’s got what. discuss”

What attracted you to this company?

The exact same questions you would ask when interviewing with one. You need to be more specific in regards to what industry ur in, job you’re interviewing for, size of company, etc.

JT Marlin?

It’s an internal position.I’m at a buy side firm. About 7 people will be beinterviewing me. 1 manager, 3 peers and 3 MDs. The interview will last 2 days, 45 min with each person. I’m interviewing for a PE positon which mostly will be doing data related stuff. I’m in operations now.

All the best kiddo! Do your best and make the AF Klan proud!

Thanks, just trying to figure out how to nail the interview…Obvious the questions for peers will be different for MDs, right?

Eh, take the interview in stride and ask real questions. Asking canned questions from a book won’t do you much justice. However, questions I like include the following.

What keeps you here? (I want to know why they stay with the company)

Tell me about your management style?

Aside from those canned questions, I like to take info as it comes and keep the conversation fluid versus Q&A.

Thanks for your advice. I really appreciate it.

Have a few that CFAvMBA mentioned kept in your back pocket. I find good ones to ask flow from the conversation, keep thinking of things to ask and how you can extrapolate further discussions with them. When they finish their talk, ask the question and give them your take on it, and ask them if thats in line with what they think. Something like that. Of course it’s not easy to do and takes some preparation and understanding of the business.

You demonstrate that you’re interested and you are actually processing what they’re saying and asking specific questions about their roles/experiences.

Ask about:

What they expect form you (so that you are clear about your overall job objectives)

The most important task/competency/skill you will appraised on (so that you know what to focus on)

Their needs vs. their wants (so you that you are able to prioritize tasks and manage your time accordingly)

Career progression? (so that you manage your expectations and are able to get a good idea of your short and long term plans in the firm)

Thank you all, these are great advice and in line with what I thought.

The only thing is I never have been interviewed by peers. What kind of questions shall I be prepared from them, and what shall I ask them?

I would assume most people would like to work with someone who’s easy going, not too competitive type, and can help out, right?

You’re a L3 candidate kid. Just explain your strong worth ethic, you perform well under pressure, and you don’t need excessive oversight to complete your work.
