Damn, I was off by 5k salary and 2k bonus.

Dude- like I noted before your data point is a dude who as you said yourself has been in the basically same position @ the same company for NINE years- doesn’t exaclty sound like an ambitious fellow. I would venture to say that with some flexibility, foresight, cojones and additional education he may have easily met the average numbers. There is no way I would stay in such a stagnant environment even if I had to move… unless of course my significant other was making up for it- but then you have to consider the intrinsic value added for ‘fitting’ one’s inflexible requirements (ie not moving).

You can say whatever you want to try to justify why real life <> AF expectations for massive riches and 72 women at your feet just for living in NYC and working in finance, but the numbers don’t lie. You can also try to pretend that this one person is an outlier out of the 100,000+ people that work at this bank, or maybe she’s not and that’s really what people make in real life.

SMIRK–for our comparison can you give us a range for your salary? Clearly not asking for an exact number but since you’ve got such strong feelings on this subject it would help to see which way you are biased.

Not sure what that accomplishes, but give me some very wide ranges and I’ll tell you which one I fall into.

Total comp: 40-70k, 70-100k, 100-150k, 150-200k, 200k plus

Total Comp (i.e. Base+Bonus for 2009): 0)<60 a) 60-80 b) 81-100 c) 100-125 d) 125-175 e)>175

Those ranges are way too narrow. Salary Ranges: a) <50K b) 50K-250K c) 250K-500K d) 500K+ Answer: B

It’s normal to assume that everyone else is banking more than yourself. In my office I always apply a 30% discount to co-workers statement’s as to what people in our line of work are making at other companies.

I’ve had BO and MO people report to me and that salary is definitely on the low end.

OH YEAH!? I’m drunk. Bitch*s.

CzarHC asked for perspective so I gave it him. I’m neither rich nor po’.

If this dude was a charter holder, made one or two good jumps, and really sold himself it wouldn’t be too unreasonable to assume he can be clearing 100-120k + 0-50% bonus by now.
