Gym Time

Just for clarification, my post wasn’t meant to put anyone down. It was actually more curiousity than anything because I’ve seen the “no-life” syndrome from my fellow co-workers and was just wondering how it stacked up against everyone else. Honestly, there have been times when I’ve struggled with it, too. So just to clarify.

i go to a 24 hr gym and get all propped up on coffee, so basically im like superman because after working out at 2am, i still get up at 6 and finish the cfa stuff too

going everyday is out of question for me but yeah every other day is still possible. 4 days in a week is not bad et al

I agree it is all about time management! Last year while studying for Level 1 I also trained for/and ran the Boston Marathon. Not going to happen this year as my first child is due to be born on April 5th… Exercise really does keep the mind fresh.

Is it obligatory to visit gym?

lunch time is when I go. Benefits of BO life I guess

i passed levels ii and iii while training for olmpic distance triathlons. i work in sell-side research, so my day went like this: M-F: wake up at 5:30am, arrive at work by 7am at 7pm, go to gym to work out for 1 to 1.5 hours. go back to work, order dinner and study until 11pm or midnight. Saturday, Sunday: work out 2-3 hours per day, study remainder of day I studied from hand-made notecards, so I would often take a stack of cards with me to the gym and review them while I was spinning. This took away from my focus on the bike (i.e. couldn’t pay attention to heart rate), but something was better than nothing. From March until June, my longer, weekend workouts suffered and I was only able to go to the gym 2-3 times during the week, but I scheduled my triathlons for later in the season (i.e. June, July, August) to accommodate my workout schedule. I should highlight that while studying for the CFA, I was very disciplined and regimented in terms of my schedule. Now that I am a CFA charterholder, I have a nice amount of time for working out (relatively speaking). It’s doable…

Trust me CFA_Halifax, it isn’t just the BO people able to go the gym at lunch these days. Some of my FO friends have been sitting on their hands since last August, many of which sweating bullets that they’ll be losing their jobs as the deal pipeline is all but dried up.

This cracks me up. Kkent is right. And I wonder how any of you would function if you had one or more small children. Thank God I finished the program before that became an issue.

“And I wonder how any of you would function if you had one or more small children.” Now why would anyone actually go and do that on purpose?

wow some of you folks are pretty disciplined I’m impressed.

My aim is try and study an hour before work, then after work gym it and then do another hours study. Also I try hit the library on Sat & Sun for 5hrs a day. If I get time I love to go for a jetski also

I am totally with u guyz …Wrokouts should not be sacrificed for CFA studies…i think there limited number of hours that one can put into studies after work during week days .so if i dont go to gym i end up wasting that time on tv or some other useless activity…so i think optimal solution is to fit both studies and workouts into ur time table …fitness is as important as career progression

>Wrokouts should not be sacrificed for CFA studies Why? You do not have to sacrifice now but once May arrives, you could absolutely focus on CFA study. One month of rest does not hurt much and you will get back in shape afterwords pretty quickly, if you start working out again right away. If you spend at the gym for hours and you did not pass, you will be punching yourself in Aug. That being said, I kept working out once a week, rather for mental health… I never work out in the morning, by the way, 'cause I cannot function all day on that day, being too tired. I am probably getting old.

i think that if workouts were part of your daily regimen, you’d only make yourself miserable by forgoing that opportunity to study. i usually try to hit up the gym 4-5 times a week, and i feel pretty mediocre if i skip a couple days in a row without some type of physical activity. sitting in my cube doesn’t exactly qualify.

I got tired of having my gut hang over my pants so I started a hardcore treadmill regimen in addition my regular weighlifting about 6 months ago. Got my 1-mile time down to 6:40 (from a starting point of 9:00) and am currently working my way up to a 22 minute 5K (starting point of well over 30 minutes). That’s about a 7:05 split for 3.1 miles. Currently knocking out a 7:40 split for 11 minutes and I’m hoping to reach my goal by the end of the year. I’ve already lost an inch on my waist and seeing my abs again so the routine is working.

I go to work at 10:00am, get off at 5:00pm, study for 3 hours at work (immediately after, it’s just an extension of my work day), then go to the gym about 8:00pm or so. Since I don’t start work until 10am, I can stay up till about 1am playing video games/reading etc. For balanced meals try this: green giant frozen box vegetables (2 servings per box, just have the whole box for a meal) + grilled chicken breast or lean steak. Healthy, easy, and relatively cheap meals. All you have to do is cook a serving of meat the night before, and bring the meat and a box of vegetables for lunch the next day. If you make this your normal meal and cut out other crap, you don’t really have to exercise to maintain a healthy weight.
