Does anyone know if hedge fund accounting counts for work experience? I know portfolio admin counts. We do a lot of OTC valuation.
A buddy of mine left hedge fund accounting because it wouldn’t count, but I also heard that it varies by the local society.
But I thought CFAI decides what work exp counts, not local society
It counts. I got all my experience approved. It all depends on how you word your job description. I would also suggest stressing any work you do that adds value and informs the ppl who make investment decisions ie: help with any valuations, value adding or custom reports provided to PM’s, etc.
egomez83, what job title did you use, fund accountant or portfolio administrator? Do u work for a service provider or fund house? Thanks
Under title I put associate and under job i just have accountant. I don’t work for an administrator. I work for the actual Hedge fund so we do most of our accounting in house.

Wow, I was initially rejected for this experience. I re-submitted using a rather lengthy appeal, so hopefully it goes through. If not I’d love to get in touch with you as well to see what you did.
ng30, please let me know the outcome. Are you fund accountant as well?
any fund accountants get approved lately? care to share any details?
I would imagine that it counts fund accounting is part of performance measurement and the feedback loop, if you have to understand finance and the products that your firm has traded ect then I think it counts.
