I’ll be frank here, and I hope the rest of the forum can be honest now that we’re all on L3 and there’s no reason to “psyche eachother out” i wasn’t too happy with the “way” i passed L2. score wasn’t horrible(failed PM, 51-70% on all the 18 pt sections, >70% on all the 36pt sections) , but i don’t think many of my answers werent as concerete vs. L1. Granted it was a harder test, but I kind of blamed my dependence of Schweser based prep questions. Now I know there isn’t any PASS bands, but how relevent do you think this is for L3? Is it just a whole, another ballgame, or is there an increasing trend in difficulty from L1 to L3?

L3 is definitely harder to study for. Think of it this way… of everyone who was able to pass L2, less than half were able to pass L3 last year (not counting any no shows).
The way I handle L3 now is that I treat it as something totally different than L1 and L2. I think what you can mostly “carry over” from the previous exams to L3 is your study habit and style. For the rest, I would say not too strongly correlated. The exams definitely get harder from L1 to L3. The jump from L1 to L2 is the highest I believe. But if you survive the jump, L3 should be relatively easier to manage. (Doesn’t mean L3 is easier though.)
I walked out of the 2008 L2 exam feeling I had done well enough to pass. Sorry, Charlie. Band 8. I walked out of 2009 L2 thinking I was in big trouble. And I passed. The only explanation I have is that I expected more of myself in 2009, i.e., I wanted to be confident in every answer, or at least most answers. Although I felt better prepared in 2009, I certainly didn’t feel I did any better on the test.
I felt like I failed L1 & L2… passed them both… Not ok with how I passed them. I don’t think its going to be strongly correlated. Just like 1 & 2 the people who really commit and put their nose to the grindstone for months will be rewarded (minus the unlucky few) That’s all I can tell myself now… “work hard, and you’ll be rewarded” it has been keeping me going.
I was pretty sure I passed level 1 and 2 when I walked out, and I did…(obviously) My confidence for level 3 is pretty low right now, but there’s a lot of hours left to go chugging away. Hopefully I’ll be ready when the time comes. For level two, there were a couple derivative-related concepts that didn’t click until a day or two before the exam, and there was a question about it on the exam. I hope to have things nailed down a bit sooner in advance this time around.
After level 1 exam I was pretty much sure that I will pass. After level 2 exam certainty was less. I am now preparing for level 3
With the same amount of preperation for each exam I experienced the following: Level I 2007 and Level II 2008 - I left the exam room feeling as though I had a greater chance of failing than passing. Passed both exams. Level III 2009 - I left the exam room feeling more confident than I had on either of the previus two exams. Feeling as though I had a better chance of passing than failing. Failed band 7. Goes to show my gut feelings were wrong… I guess I hope to feel like I failed when I leave the exam this June?? For me personally I attribute this expereince on Level III to overconfidence, which I belive is easier on the Level III exam than the prior two… more or less due to the fact that the material for Level III is more “pleasant” to read.
thought that I wouldn’t pass it, however no failure, I’m lucky
