Okay guys so I’m pretty much done with my second pass except I haven’t even begun with Quant. That is one topic which I’ve always hated much.
Now, the thing is I feel there is a lot of overlap with the L1 material. As I did not review quant properly in L1 too, I’m not sure if I’ll get everything if I just delve into the L2 material.
What do you think would be the best strategy? Do you think I need to review the concepts of L1 again? I just don’t want to use up a lot of my time at this stage for a topic which would probably be just one vignette.
Though some of the material builds from L1, a lot of the material is brand new. The fortunate part is if you hear a lecture and the topic is spoken in layman’s terms, I think you will it fairly easy. My advice would be to listen to a vid lecture first then read the chapter. GL
I just watched all the Elan videos for quant over the past 3 days as I play catchup since I haven’t covered everything. He does a decent job. Each section is 2.5hrs. I don’t really remember much from L1 because I took it a few years ago and everything is fairly stand alone. There is some conceptual background you’d lack, but the way I think the questions in quant are you don’t need to know it. It is a matter of recognizing the question and then applying the proper formulas and going through the steps. I haven’t gone through all the questions, but I don’t think you’ll have a hard time understanding it…it is more a matter of internalizing and being able to do it on command without referencing a formula sheet. You are given a bunch of inputs and need to figure out what to do with them.
Also, was debating to skim the Time series section because I did fall asleep a little in that video. I keep hearing the multiple regression section is the most likely to get tested with 1 item set so I may double down my time on that section and go light on the others…although that is a bit of a gamble…
Agreed with above. Elan videos can be purchased individually and think they are definitely worth it.
Quant is difficult but once you get it, it’s pretty straightforward (it just comes down to being able to interpret an ANOVA table). This is for reading 1 and 2 (regression stuff). Reading 3 (time series) I’m still strugling with a bit. I’m going for pure memorization on some of this stuff and hoping for the best.
CleverCFA, mate Ive sent you a presentation which I found extremely useful for Quants. I saw your email above and have taken liberty to email you… So no its not a spam and you are completely free to just delete that email as well! Hope that presentation helps…
Note: please be mindful of any curriculum changes between 2012 and 2013… Cheers.
