Hello everyone and Happy New Year! I am a long-time user of this forum, but first-time poster. I passed my level 3 exam in 2007 and just finished 4 years of qualified (hopefully) work experience and finally I am about to apply for the Charter. I know that this subject has been previously discussed in detail on this forum, but I would greatly appreciate if you provide me with any advice on my particular case. I have experience in FP&A/Business Development as well as in investment banking. Here is what I am about to send to CFAI for evaluation: Company 1 Role: Corporate Finance Analyst - Analyze financial fundamentals and construct financial models to forecast financial results - Conduct long range financial planning and analyze capital needs for current operations and new corporate projects - Perform statistical analysis of possible outcomes of business initiatives, including scenario and sensitivity analysis - Evaluate potential acquisition targets, including discounted cash flow valuation, comparable company and transaction multiples valuation, revenue/cost synergy modeling, and accretion/dilution analysis Company 2 Role: Investment Banking Analyst - Performed absolute and relative company valuation analysis, including discounted cash flow and price multiples valuation, as part of initial public offerings, equity and debt financings, mergers, acquisitions, spin-offs and joint ventures - Conducted merger analysis, including accretion/dilution analysis and synergy modeling - Analyzed financial statements of companies in different reporting jurisdictions Could you, please, let me know if: 1. this information is descriptive/detailed enough for CFAI? 2. you had to make any edits to the above descriptions, what they would be? 3. my work experience would be considered as eligible for the Charter? Thank you very much in advance!
I think you’re looking good for getting that experience approved, congrats.
artvandalay, thanks a lot for your feedback! I really hope you are right. One can easily get paranoid reading information on this forum and realizing how much depends on proper wording and description of the work experience.
Research this topic on L3 forum – that’s where the best advice is. I suggest you look up the cfai list of acceptable jobs/functions and try to bend your experience into those descriptions. It’s on their website. Speak their language and they’ll be happier. Also: if they turn you down the first time, then you respond by providing “more detail” to your descriptions. They will have your entire history of attempts available, so make sure you don’t say something in the first submission that you might want/need to restate later.
I co-worker of mine just received his charter and job descriptions are very similar, I see no reason why your experience would be turned down. It’s all about key words after all.
