i don't know how to study

I have the ebook of CFA level 1 and I ordered the hard copy and got it. I printed out Schweser 2017 books and I have the videos of 2014. Now I have a lot of materials and little time and I have no idea how study. Can anyone give me a step by step approach to study for CFA level 1

Read books --> Do Questions --> Take mocks --> Pass the exam

Read Sheweser, do end of chapter questions after each reading, then for revision repeat the whole process(which will go much faster second time around). I suggest making your own note book along the way with key formulas , definitions and examples as a go to reference and last days revision.

Good luck

Do you mean by books the original ones ?

Okay thanks a lot

If you take the exam in December here is the strategy that will work the best:

For every reading, first go through the Schweser book and try to understand everything and take your own notes. Then skim through the same reading in CFA curriculum to check if you miss any important information from the Schweser. Then if possible, do those EOC of CFA curriculum. Don’t forget those blue box examples in the curriculum. Finalize the reading by compiling your own notes with theories and examples u got from both sources of materials. You always remember better by using your own notes since you are the one who write it. As you proceed to the next reading, try to recollect what you learn from the previous reading. You don’t have to remember everything word by word, just the main idea. It will help you on your final revision of the whole material. Regarding those videos, basically they explain exactly what is written in the book with some additional explanation for those who lack of background in finance and accounting. You can use it whenever you hit a difficult concept. However, don’t waste too much time on those videos as they are more or less supplemental and optional. Make sure that you have 1.5 months to do the mock exams. The best source of mock exams is the one provided by CFA institute. Try to collect as many as possible those previous year mocks and do them as soon as you finish your reading and revision. Also those topic tests that are available on CFA website a few months before the exam are also a very good sources to prepare for the exam. Most of them are 20%-30% harder than the real ones in the exam. Once you are done with those resources provided by CFA institute, try those that are provided by third party like Schweser (recommended). Besides, you should learn from wrong answers as they explain on which areas your weakness lies.

If you dont have much time here is what I would suggest:

Read Schweser and do those blue box examples + EOC from CFA curriculum. Don’t bother those EOC from Schweser and its question bank. Try to remember as much as you can because lv 1 tests you on your memory. Do those topic tests provided by CFA and practice the mock exams from previous year and the current one. Completing the whole materials within 3.5 months is manageable I would say. Then spend the last 2 weeks on practicing the mock exams.

Thank you sooo much

That’s going to be a problem…

I believe you should only focus on Schweser content, its questions and practice exams.

3 months could be enough for you to prepare depending on your background. Hope that helps!

I m preparing for level 1. I try to complete 1 reading per day including the chapter-end problems (depending on how much I can ‘take-in’ in a day). That will require 60+ days roughly to go through each reading. The remaining days I will devote to taking mocks and strengthening the areas I struggle. I hope this strategy works.

All the best to you too.

I have been reading an assigned reading once per day.

The first time through I highlight and make notes to have a personal intuition on the content. After I go back and read it again and pay close attention to each highlighted area, my notes, etc. Then do the questions at the end of the reading assignment.

Hope that helps & good luck.
