Can you survive with 60K in NYC? where would you live? share a studio with 5? eat ramen noodles?

i know 5 on AF i wouldnt mind sharin ga studio with

People survive with a lot less than 30k a year in NYC, take a walk down the street and you will see plenty of them.

I know plenty of people who would take it… I saved up enough not to have to worry about $$. Not everyone is so lucky.

Finance entry level BO in NYC make 30-40k?

So please help me figure this out. you make 30k in NYC. where do you live? what do you eat? is NYC expensive only in rents or is grocery more expensive too? gas, electric, subway…it all adds up.

You do needhelp bro. People live in NJ, Staten island, westchester county etc and commute everyday. 35K is like $2000/month after taxes. They keep roommates and share all the utilities. You may not be able to live decent life and might have to compromise with everything but you can survive.

or your parents help you out for a yr or two… Better to make 30k and get 10k (after tax) from Parents then to make 0 and live with Parents…

had a cheapskate former college roomate friend who made $32K in his first job out of college in NYC, commuted from Queens everyday, ate ramen noodles, and spent all his discretionary income on booze

again not a bad start for recent grad or an intern.

How much does an elementary school teacher make in NYC?

know a guy who is living as a paying guest in the basement of some nepali family. He is paying $500 including all the utilities and sometimes free indian/nepali food as a bonus. NYC is an awesome city. You can survive easily in 30K but at the same time 300K is not enough. I was ready to take entry level trading offer from some chopshop in nyc for free just to learn how the real trading works but fortunately got a decent job in investment management firm.

the above location is in Queens near Jackson Heights.

In 2004, my wife started at $40k- and i doubt starting teacher salaries have risen 25% over that period.

$50k is probably the average salary after X number of years, not the starting salary. In California, for instance, teachers make $60+ on average.

That’s under a 5% CAGR for the period and remember government workers are entitled to raises every year no matter what.
