Most people who use “fundamental analysis” (IE grade 8 math) as part of their job don’t deserve more than 20K/year. So 30K isn’t bad.
30K?! wouldn’t you be able to make more working at SBUX and not to mention you will get free coffee all day and night and meet lots of ladies
Yeah I’m sure the ladies all drop their th0ngs for dudes who serve coffee for a living.
iheartiheartmath Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Yeah I’m sure the ladies all drop their th0ngs for > dudes who serve coffee for a living. unemployment benefits can be more than 30K and I am sure ladies from Harlem may drop their t for dudes who have a regular income (atleast for first 9 months)
^and they dig hedge fund dudes who make $30K/year and share an apt with 5 other dudes.

I love my sbux men. They always remember your name and what you like to order. +1 to all the sbux baristas!
pupdawg82 Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > unemployment benefits can be more than 30K Maximum unemployment benefits in NY state = $405/week. Assuming Congress extends unemployment to cover a full 12 months, $405 x 52 weeks = $21,060 = nowhere near 30K. This kind of calls the credibility of the rest of your post into question.

Don’t you have to pay taxes on 30K? You can defer taxes from unemployment benefits but not from 30K salary. So for an example - one pays 30% taxes on his 30K which is 21K as net salary which is less than your calculation. My sentence had “can be” which means its possible but doesn’t apply in all cases.
Unemployment benefits are most definitely taxable. The deferral benefit is negligible since interest rates are close to 0. Cumulative income tax rates on 30K come nowhere near 30%. Any other voodoo math you need debunked?
it is taxable but there is an option where you can defer it till your tax return. You pay your taxes in lumpsum instead of getting deducted every week. Still it is just off by couple of grands even if you pay 20% taxes on your 30K salary.

This basically reiterates everything I said. The benefit from deferring your taxes is negligible to the tune of a <1% annual interest rate and 20% of 30K = $6000, whereby 30K-6K > 21K. Next.

Judging from the posts on AF lately, I wonder how many people pursue the CFA for the chicks and how many do it because they are genuinely interested in this stuff.

I really think giving up your social life for so many years is in contradiction of chasing chics strategy …

Van that could explain some of it.
So I haven’t been on AF much lately but I’m shocked by how retarded this thread is… ok so the job doesn’t pay very well… but its still a job… with relatively modest skill/intelligence requirements… in a city people want to live in… in an industry people (for whatever their reasoning) want to break into… at a time when there are no positions. You can’t compare it to the fact that you can make more as an elementary school teacher or from an unemployment check (which you actually need to be EMPLOYED first to get… zing…) because five years down the road, when the guy who took this job has made himself absolutely irreplaceable to the fund manager and is making a multiple of X, it will have been a much better opportunity than the 2 year gap on his resume making it near impossible for him to break into the industry simply because he scoffed at $30k
Unemployment in NY is $430/week not 405. In NJ it’s $584/week pupdawg82 Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > iheartiheartmath Wrote: > -------------------------------------------------- > ----- > > pupdawg82 Wrote: > > > -------------------------------------------------- > > > ----- > > > unemployment benefits can be more than 30K > > > > Maximum unemployment benefits in NY state = > > $405/week.
