Syndicate loans have an increasing amount of LBOs lately from what I’ve seen. Underwriting in this space has gotten incredibly loose IMO. At any rate, I wouldn’t ignore it
While I never went the IB route, I did consider it but ultimately decided it wouldn’t be conducive to my Buddhist endeavors and love of sleep. I still have some “prep” books for IB interviews. If you are interested in these, send me a message with an email or way of sending them and I’ll happily send them along.
And about Numi, he’d be one of the only people I’d trust on this forum. Not only is he clearly knowledgable about this area, but he is just an overall well adjusted person (from what I can tell here and what people say who have met him). I hope to meet Numi one of these days, but I’m fairly certain he is one of those “Dangerous” guys I look out for who is smart and good with people.
Not that it matters, and I have never used his services, but I get the impression the way Numi conducts things is, even if a candidate doesn’t land a specific role, they would still be pleased and leave good feedback because they are better prepared for the next opportunity. Guarantees are a waste of time and if you ask me, they actually detract from someones credibility when it comes to this sort of thing.
Vandy, I think you’re searching for a definitive answer regarding the services provided. Meaning, I’m getting the feeling you want to know what exactly you’re receiving in return for the $1k of $2k of your hard earned money paid to someone you don’t know, under a random alias, in random city. Well, I have an answer for you!
In Numi’s case, he provides consultations via phone, resume reviews, cover letter reviews, b-school essay reviews, and mock interview/stock pitch interviews at various prices and packages. So for example, a 30 min phone call might cost you $250, an hour phone call might be $450, resume review might be $300, etc. (I’m making these figures up). When you pay Numi $250, the service you receive is a 30 min. phone call. What you get out of that call is based on you and your discussion with Numi. Simply put, you’re purchasing a 30 min. phone call (as a caveat, I’m not downplaying the value of the call I’m just making a point to help the kid). When you purchase resume reviews, you receive three marked up versions of your resume. So, your service is Numi’s time and the product is three revised resume versions. The concept is similar to the other items I mentioned. So, when you enroll a coach like Numi those are the types of scenarios you will experience. His goal is to work hard for YOU, give YOU the right tools to succeed, and help YOU get a job with a legit firm. Why? Well, if you understand business, you know customer ratings and feedback are key. So, it’s not like Numi is running around stealing everyone’s money and providing crap services. If that were the case, why would dozens of people keep coming back to him? Moreover, it’s a case of simple economics. Don’t worry sweat it though, they are reasonable questions. I think everyone is up in arms over your statements because it’s like you just made a noob move in chess and feel into checkmate.
Yeah I’m definitely going to spend some time on LBOs. It’s difficult to know what types of questions I’ll receive. I’m getting the feeling they might treat me more like someone who’s been in IB. I looked up the MDs and both of them used to work for the Big 4 firms where I’m working. So, I’m sure that will be a big talking point. Sounds like they are trying to get someone in there ASAP. I think they cut it down from 3 rounds of interview to 2 rounds. So, this superday interview will determine my fate.
What are the prep books like that you have? I’m going on vacation from Wed to Sun, and the interview is next Monday so I’m going to be prepping all day Sunday and a little bit Monday morning.
Yes, I understand his model and what he offers. I guess I am just a naturally skeptical person and wonder how much benefit can come from a 30 minute phone call or if a simple resume ‘review’ is worth hundreds of dollars.Especially since he is so secretive about everything., in my opinion I wish there was more transparency.
I have some PDFs on common questions, interview techniques, and other things of that nature. I think i still have the one sold by one of the internet sites (Maybe Wall Street Oasis) plus a few from various business schools. A lady I knew at JPMorgan IB in NYC sent them to me to help me understand IB and equity analyst interviews. And I have a few financial statement cheat sheets, like one that shows how each account flows into what account.
don’t like it? don’t pay for it. no point in you continuing to drone on about numi’s “lack of transparency” or his “no money back guarantee”. what a F’ing joke.
Is the point of a message board not to discuss things? I simply orginally asked about the guarantee and was attacked for it it, so I have had to respond and defend myself the rest of the thread.
^ Yes it is, “point of a message board” is to discuss things. But think of it, you originally asked about the gurantee in the 16th post and since then even in 73rd post you are still trying to ‘respond’ and ‘defend’ it with more or less same logic and/or reasoning irrespective of what others have to say about your responses. And nobody agreed with your view!
Soon you will be an MBA and may be (don’t know whether for good or bad) will be a Manager of something (resources or manpower or policies) somewhere, so practice the art of listening and grasp the fine points of a situation (whether explicit or implicit) and act in the right ‘spirit’. Sometimes, even if you are right in your general context it may not be so in some specific context and in such circumstances it requires flexible approach and often people not only appreciates but also loves Managers with adaptable (not necessarily compromising) thought process and approach rather than stubbornly single-point (which often turns into a single-agenda) thinkers. Managers ‘manage’ things and situations and do not only not ‘administrate’ it (as per rigid statements of facts , called rules). There is difference between ‘negotiation’ and ‘discussion’, in the later there is no ‘losing’ or ‘winning’ position or condition. In discussions it requires more courage to see and grasp others’ vewpoint and modify own than to simply be adamant and stick to the original thought as it is always possible that one’s original thought is based on lesser exposure and lower grasp of reality at a particular stage (that is why beliefs and vies points get modified as one gets more experience and knowledge).
From your many other posts, reflecting a wide spectrum and focussed analysis therein, it is apparent here you have made it more of a ‘prestige issue’ and no longer discussing it in true spirit but only trying to bring every body else to your point of view irrespective of its applicability in a specific context. Probably for such situations when one is unable to grasp the sense of the other’s viewpoint diplomats “agree to disagree” and instead of being foolishly adamant go forward in their ‘discussions’ - it is both wiser and perspicacious.
Why is it only my fault? The people that continue to argue with me are equally as guilty. Just because I am the one person with a different viewpoint than everyone else should not mean that I have to just succumb to the pressures and agree to disagree. Why can’t they agree to disagree with me? I am not trying to bring everyone to my own viewpoint. I simply get attacked and have to justify my actions and stance.
