Not your traditional interview, I asked the owner of a small boutique ibanking firm to meet over a cup of coffee, he agreed and we are meeting at 4:00 this friday at his office. This came from me following up from a phone interview wanting to stay in touch. Wondering if I should wear a full suit with tie or if this would be overkill. Also, wondering what the etiquete is in regards to firm specific questions. He plans to double revenue in 2 years - would it be out of line to ask how much revenue his firm brings in? He’s got about 17 employees and is hiring an associate although I’d probably fit in as an analyst as I only have 1 yr working experience. I had a great first interview and have done a large amount of research via his publications, podcasts, etc. Any/all commentary is welcome.
if you were actually getting coffee id say it’s probably overkill to go full suit and tie, but since you’re going into the office (kinda sounds like you’re getting a second round interview?) i’d definitely go full suit and tie.
i wouldnt ask about specific numbers/revenues might seem to be prying and he likely will not be forthcoming. however, id say it would be good to ask for specifics about how he exepects to get this growth, how the position can contirbute to growth, what is his company doing differently than competitiors, etc.
thanks for the feedback. I edited and should have said we are meeting at his office to get coffee, however i’m not sure if that means it’s another interview or we are leaving from there.
Yes, it is another interview though set up by you. @randy is right, don’t ask specific numbers to avoid a potential rad block, but you can always , after some conversation, say something like, “…I understand that you have plans to double the revenue in next two years (if he has not said it himself), how big a jump you are aiming for or what growth figure are you targetting/ aiming for ?” This questions can be follow up to the questions suggested above by @randy.
