interview for junior analyst fund of funds

hi, anyone working as an analyst could give me insight of the kind of questions i should be expecting in interview

I actually have an interview this upcoming Monday with a PE FOF that specializes in Buyouts: Qualifications: - This position is a 2 to 3 year pre-MBA analyst position for motivated professionals who envision attending a top business school program. - A proven academic track record combined with relevant experience / internships in private equity and/or investment banking and/or investment management. - The candidate must demonstrate a good familiarity with and passion for the private equity market, in general, and the buyout market, in particular. - Strong academic credentials with emphasized studies in the areas of finance and economics. - Advanced strategic problem solving skills / aptitude. - Ability to mesh strong quantitative skills with qualitative reasoning to develop investment opinions. - Entrepreneurial spirit. - Excellent quantitative, accounting, and financial modeling skills using Excel. Also; familiarity with all other Office applications and database applications. - Outstanding business writing abilities. - Able to establish and maintain excellent relationships and credibility quickly both internally and externally. Superior communication and interpersonal skills. Our successful candidate will possess an infectious enthusiasm, and unquestionable integrity, maturity and character. Job Description This analyst will be trained and mentored in all elements of private equity fund of fund investment due diligence and/or portfolio management and will be responsible for: - Financial modeling of underlying fund historical performance to evaluate investment opportunities. - Monitoring and tracking underlying investment return models. - Maintaining and updating fund sourcing and investment database. - Developing and communicating investment strategies to senior investment staff (both verbally and in writing). I think they will ask me why I want to work in the PE industry and what experience I’ve had with financial modeling / valuation (which I haven’t had any since I’ve been in public accounting for 2 years). I don’t think they are really expecting me to know all about investments or i-banking, they just want me to be bright and outgoing. I feel like they are not going to ask too many technical questions.

That’s a really gross thread hijack Overlap - start your own thread. Level1 - It’s a junior analyst position, so they are probably not expecting you to know much. You just need to seem smart, cooperative, outgoing, willing to offer up your face as a career stepping stone to the guy hiring you, have demonstrated ability to lick senior analyst’s Gucci loafers clean, etc… I suggest that you know the basic hedge fund strategies so when they say “convertible arb”, “managed futures”, “equity long/short”, “distressed”, etc… you know what they are talking about…

I think part of the reason Overlap might have posted the job description was to give the original poster a sense of what types of responsibilities one might expect as a FoF analyst, since the interview questions could be potentially based off of those things

Yup, numi, that’s exactly why. I couldn’t care less about my own interview (I’m already prepared for that).

hahah to the “offer up your face as a stepping stone to the guy hiring you”

Gucci Loafers! Yummy…
