What is the consensus out there about the IB training program via the Investment Banking Institute? I understand they train and place individuals. My firm pays for people to go through the program. I’m trying to figure out if this is worth the hype. One of the head directors told me they do trainings for some of the top middle market banks, some top MBA programs, and a few other places. It’s pretty expensive, but is it worth it?
I did it several years back. Paid for it on my own. Added it to my resume and it has been a good talking point in interviews. I did not use their placement service because soon after I landed a job.
Is it worth it? Hard to say. So far, I think it was worth it for me.
A B School pal of mine took it and got an IB job. However, he was so bent on M&A I bet he could have got a job anyway.
Thanks for the feedback. It sounds like a solid program. I spoke with one of the directors and it sounds like everyone teaching and leading the program comes from BB or middle market backgrounds. Their placement service sounds pretty legit as well. They have HR folks who know the ins and outs of the IB industry and assist with interview prep and resume revisions.
CFAvsMBA, where did your friend land a job? JBrowntown, did you complete all 3 CFA exams before entering the IB industry? I recently spoke with a boutique investment bank and they loved me, but want me to finish my MBA before joining their firm because of the hours. I’m curious if it’s better to wait and knock everything out (CFA and MBA) before going the IB route. Any advice?
I actually did not get a IB job. I obtained a role in PWM. I went to IBI to learn how it’s done and to increase my investment knowledge. If I hadn’t obtained my role in PWM, then I would’ve pursued an IB role or attempted to gain addmission to a good MBA program.
I entered the CFA program soon after I was finished with IBI.
