Investment employers with mechanical investing style

Hello!

I am enrolling from an insurance mathematician background. I have studied CFA Level 2.

I am looking for investment employers with a mechanical investing style, where I can make use of my statistical background.

However the investment criterias are mostly a great secret. So it is pretty hard to find an investment company with a mechanical investing style. Any tips?

Meanwhile I have figured out, that the term mechanical investing is not popular any more. Mechanical investing has become part of quantitative investing.

Here is a list of quantitative equity funds.

Yes, mechanical investing sounds like you don’t adapt to new information or market environments. Quantitative investing makes you sound like you study everything down to the 1000th decimal point.

Quant investing has been hard hit of late. However, if you want to go down that route, it might help to go over to Paul Wilmott’s forums, where the quant types tend to hang around more.

Generally to get into a quant fund you need a minimum of an MFE or MS in Computational Finance, and probably a PhD. There are lots of quant funds around of varying quality, so it depends on where you are located. If you are in NY or SF there are plenty of options, though not a lot of seats and it’s extremely competitive. You are correct that no one calls it mechanical anymore.
