I am attempting to take a 1 in 100,000 shot of taking non financial F500 B2B sales experience and progress towards the CFA (soon to register for LV2) and transition to an IR/Business development role in a hedge fund/AM/Real Estate.
Have a finance background and went to a top 10 undergrad b school.
For hedge funds, a good place to start is with the “Capital Introductions” groups of major prime brokers.
Goldman, JPM, BoaML, MS, UBS, Credit Suise, etc…
They have large teams of 20 somethings (usually hot girls) who make intros between hedge funds and investors. Most of them then parlay that into a marketing gig with a hedge fund they meet while on the job.
This is great advice from PistolPt. However, you really don’t have the relevant background and for you to get into a role like that, you should try to get some type of introduction to one of the people there. BUt yes, I agree that cap intro or prime brokerage is a good starting point.
Better yet, work for a public pension fund that allocates money to major hedge funds. You will be able to network your way into a captial raising roll, I have seen it done multiple times. You will probably have a much easier time getting a job at a public pension fund that just outsources investment management than getting a job at a BB. Just make sure they actually have an alternatives allocation, and network from there.
