I have a CPA so the material isn’t entirely unfamiliar. Is 5 months enought time to cover everything if I’m only able to devote around 2 hours/day from here on out? Also, I haven’t received any of the material yet.
Yes. 5 months = 150 days 2hrs/day * 150 days = 300 hours 300 hours > 250 hours recommended by CFAI
good luckif you go by 250 hours you should be a genius…I suggest you spend at least another hour a day…even if you have your accounting background
250 hrs is plenty for L1 (unless you are totally new to the topics). You are golden. Go for it.
some people on here recommend studying for double that but its about quality not quantity. imo youll be fine with 250hrs.
Just try to make a schedule. I spent 5 months on L1 last year with 1 study session per week for 18 weeks. After which, I had a few weeks to review before the exam. I probably put only 2 - 3 hours per day into studying during the week, but much more during the weekends. I also took the week before the exam off to go over practically everything. I was a finance & econ undergrad with a 3.89 GPA in each and I’m a credit analyst (so the FSA wasn’t really as much of an issue for me as others) but I still felt it necessary to study well beyond the recommended 250 hours. To be completely honest with you, I busted my @ss preparing, but it was worth it when I read PASS on the computer screen 8 weeks later. You might want to think about studying more than 2 hours on Saturday and/or Sunday. Then again, the amount of preparation one needs is candidate specific. To answer your original question, YES, 5 months is enough to time to prepare for the exam.
Thanks everyone for the advice.
if the CPA material is still fresh in your mind, i think 3 months is enough. I spent very little time on the FSA section, it’s much easier than the FAR section of the CPA. You still need to put in 250 hours though to pass the exam.
5 months for a full time working adult?
i am in a similar position too…seems fine but need to work extra…i just need more motivation…there is no one around me who is doing CFA L1…
