is level 2 easier than level 1?

When i read the CFAI material level 2 was definitely harder than level1. But then i did my first sample test and i scored 78% on the morning and afternoon session… I remember my first sample test in level 1 was about 63 or 65%… Also I was able to finish the test in 2 hours but level 1 took me at least 3:15 on the first try. Something’s fishy… Are you guys finding the same thing?

Nothing fishy. You just learned from Level 1 the amount of work needed to go in to succeed on these exams, and mentally were better prepared to step it up. You probably read or were told before L2 how difficult it would be, so your studies were more exhaustive than L1.

level 2 is definitely much harder in terms of volume and concepts in my view but i am also finishing the tests quicker - also depends when you took the samples last year vs this yr in terms of prep i guess

It seems the scores of most people for practice exams are higher on Level II than they were for Level I. However, Level I was more of a sure thing. You either knew it or you didn’t. I can’t talk for others but somehow I am scoring reasonably well on the (Schweser) practice exams (I did horrible on old BSAS exams!). Nonetheless, when doing the exam the scores might be good but I had to put a lot of questionmarks on the side of questions to highlight the fact I wasn’t sure about the answer. Not sure at all. Yesterday I placed a questionmark and ‘wtf!’ next to an entire vignette. My score on it? 100%… In short: The scores are quite reassuring but the curriculum is a lot harder to really master. So that can be quite scare and could cause some volatile results but the scores of >70% should reassure everyone that conceptually their knowledge is more than acceptable and that the Level II curriculum is nearly impossible to really master.

Nope, it’s much harder. If you’ve scored well it’s either you studied well and you are ready for the exam, or you’ve been directly or indirectly exposed to many of the mock exam questions, which skewed your result. I hope you belong in the first camp.

i would say scoring 13% higher on a 30-question test is definitely a solid indicator that L2 is easier

no way!! both the same. not difficult but just a lot and a lot of details that you have to memorize.
