Is six months as a Business Analyst enough to find another BA role?

Hi,

I would like some advice regarding my current work situation.

I’ve been working as a test analyst for 6 years until recently when I was offered a job as Business Analyst/Tester. I’ve been doing this role for about 5 months, but I’m seriously considering leaving my company as I have not enjoyed my time there at all, although I have gained valuable business analysis experience.

I’m looking at two options:

  1. Look for another BA role
  2. Potentially take some time off to go travelling for a few months and take some BA qualifications

So, the question I would like to ask is having approx 6 months (which it is likely to be once everything is settled) BA experience enough to get another BA role? Ideally I would like to have one years experience at my current workplace on my CV, but I don’t think I can work there for another 6 months.

I was hoping tailoring my CV to include BA related work in my previous role as a Test Analyst would help add some experience, as there is some cross over with a BA role i.e. looking at requirements. Do recruiters value and take this type of experience into account?

Thanks in advance for your help.

If you’re unhappy with your job I think it’s worth switching. As long as you can explain the story of why you left you will be fine.

Well, if you got the first job, I would assume you are in some way qualified for the same job at a different company.

As long as you have a legitimate reason, it’s probably ok to change after six months.

what if there was a guy who was ops guy before and was hired to do ops but moved to research role within few months of hiring. he learned from the analysts and PMs at the new firm. How long would he have to stay here until he can really market himself as research dude and not ops dude?

i’ll go against everyone else & say stay. you’ll need 2yrs experience as a BA, otherwise you’ll be going back to testing.

take the exams in the next 18 months while you are waiting for the exit.
