Just got let go...

I don’t even know what to think.

oh crap… sorry man. How can we help you?

Geez, sorry man. Were you at a bank?

This is really sad. Are you a citizen or on visa?

Take a few days to let the shock wear off before you do anything.

I work at an fee based asset manager. Due to assets shrinking, we are not taking in as much revenue as we have been. Although I foresaw this day coming, I never expected it so soon. Also I thought the firm was running as lean as possible. I’m going to a lunch presentation on Thursday with the CFA Society in my hometown. I’ll network as much as possible through that. Otherwise I’m retaking Level 1 in Dec, I’ll now have plenty of time to study, and I’m going to business school in the fall of 2009. Both managers already said they would gladly give me a good reference going forward. I have a good network, but now it comes down to getting a job for 10 months since school starts in September of next year. I’ll try some temp or contract work. It’s like a locomotive running through my stomach.

sorry bro. i wonder for how many of us the fate’s been sealed without us knowing it yet.

I can’t do much but empathise. Sorry to hear.

Well, uh, there might be some ditches that need digging. Edit: Sorry, lame attempt at humor. I’m full of gallows humor today. I’m sorry, but good things will come around.

Sorry to hear, man - definitely give it a few days to get your head together, and you’ll make some good decisions.

if you’re going back to school full-time, then sit back and relax, pass Level 1 in Dec and Level 2 in June, travel the world, volunteer, network, and have fun!

Sorry man. Can one of your friends get you a job laying carpet?

Been there, done that. Tomorrow morning, make a list of things you need to get done and tick them off. Repeat the next morning and every morning after that. Get some exercise. When you’ve done all you can for the day, get out of the house and do something free - like reading at a bookstore for three hours.

Sorry to hear that. Sleep it over and start thinking about options tomorrow morning. From your post (2nd one), it seems you are in a better position than many others.

This is what I’m thinking. Pass Level 1 and 2. Volunteer (which was my passion all through undergrad), travel, and collect unemployment while I seek out temp work for the time being.

Very sorry to hear that. Keep your head up things will turn around. You can volunteer while you are looking for a job and that should come in handy for the B-school app. Take care.
