Lazard M&A

I’ve heard Lazard be described as an M&A powerhouse. What makes it different? This is my sneaky way of gaining Info on Lazard as i have a telephone interview in a few days and was told that the questions would involve: understanding how they differ from other companies what skills they are looking for what i expect to be doing as an intern understanding what they do and how they do it diff. why i want to work there etc etc. If anyone has any info on Lazard that would be good to drop in in an interview, or even just good resources i could use to read up on them then that would be awesome. thanks

I suggest you search in wallstreetoasis for specific information on Lazard.

Lazard is an M&A powers house. They’re up there with GreenHill, Evercore, Moelis, Centerview, etc… Bruce Wasserstein was their primary rainmaker who died of heat failure in 2009. Very very few people have the kind of impact on their firms like Wasserstein did. He did over $250 Billion of deals in his life, that’s making it rain. Lazard is known as a sweatshop and generally their analysts pull 100 hour weeks. As an intern? In ibanking interns are called Summer Analysts. Generally you will probably be running around getting coffee and lunch for the MDs, being bitched at by every level of the food chain, and cleaning toilets with a toothbrush. If you’re lucky enough you might get to spend a few hours in Excel learning the ins and outs of an M&A pitchbook.

Coincidentally, I work for Lazard and am interviewing some young whippersnapper over the phone in a few days. I am recording all responses.

i interviewed there for an ibanking summer analyst position my senior year of college. they like to think of themselves as a boutique. i got questions relating to the accounting treatment of an aerospace and defense merger along with other basic valuation questions. gorgeous offices on the top of the rock.
