Least Douchey Luxury Sedan

Might be more of a Genesis clone, Equus has a 203 in wheelbase or so. Although Genesis is more like 197.

I didn’t stop and measure it, but it was definitely an Equus and it looked a lot smaller than I was expecting. Based on the online specs, it’s bigger than a 7 Series, so maybe it was parked next to an SUV and that made it look smaller.

bmw and lexus are most douchey. audi and vw more acceptable for less baller types. if baller, shot-caller type, buy volvo, jaguar or caddie. thread over.

^So Lexus is douchey, Audi is for “less baller”, and if you’re “more baller”, you need either a Ford or GM product.

Got it.

clearly you’ve never driven an audi

i only say audi is for less baller types as they are commonplace and start at a low price point. there aren’t jags that start at 30k. i think car coolness is highly dependent on your market. i live in a rich north american city with german roots where close to half of the cars on the road are VW, Audi and BMW. all of those are boring and normal. even if you have a $100k Audi, it won’t stand out as much as a $50k Volvo, Jag or Caddie.

You are talking to the guy who tells us Google Glass and its ilk will bring down Apple.

audi is still gangster, just not the most gangster. it’s not like i’m saying audi and bmw are the same.

though Glass doesn’t look all that cool, neither does staring at a 4" to 6" screen in the palm of your hands all day and missing out on life.

In the segment I’ll ever actually be able to afford, I’ve always been partial to the E Class. A guy can grab a late model E350 as a CPO for around $40K, and an E550 with 400+ HP for the low $50’s if he’s lucky.

As far as any car, I’m in love with the Porsche Panamera. The Turbo S goes off at $180K, which puts me a mere $450K short.

Where I am:

Volvo = Barbour wax jacket wearing, labrador owning, aga cooking, red trousered wankers driving round the country

Jag = old man car, pretty affordable relative to other luxury brands, for people that want an Aston but can’t afford one.

Caddie = what?

VW = acceptable if you’re under 25, not baller

BMW = obnoxious twats, never let anyone out, undertake, never signal, park in front of your drive way or in the disabled spaces.

Audi = car of champions

It just occurred to me that my daily driver is a 2000 Lincoln Town Car. I’m amending my answer to “14 year old Lincoln Town Cars with 160,000 miles on the odometer.”

^ I’m driving a VW Jetta rental right now out of town. Its actually a surprisingly decent car for a lower end vehicle. I bet with a decent engine and some options it’d be pretty nice (the rental is very base model). I’m guessing the Passat is even nicer. I’m debating getting a third vehicle as a daily commuter on non-blizzard days and I may very well consider a VW.

This is probably true. Out here, an F-150 Platinum is the epitome of cool, with a GMC Sierra Texas edition right behind it.

Of the luxury car brands, probably 90% of them are Lexus, Mercedes, and Volvo. There are a few Beamers floating around, and almost no Audis. (But I don’t think there’s an Audi dealership anywhere within 300 miles.)

I did see a Rolls Royce here the other day. But upon closer inspection, I saw that it was actually a Pontiac Bonneville. The owner had taken off the hood ornament and replaced it with a Rolls hood ornament. (Not lying.)

I think we can all agree that that’s douchey as fuck…

the jetta is probably the best value on the market for the low end as its backseat and trunk are huge and they’re durable as F. i agree it’s not the best in Canadian winters but mine performed much better than i expected last winter when we got dumped on. and unless you’re going to spend $10K more, I don’t think you’ll find a car that performs any better. i think as long as you have winter tires on, and as long as you are driving a 2011+ model (they’re bigger and I expect heavier) it’ll get the job done. just make sure you have some kitty litter and a candle.

Bob, used Astons aren’t that expensive, can pick one up for £25-35k.

i wouldn’t say that’s douce per se, more ghetto superstar if anything.

Hp ranking of common luxury sedans, if I was buying:

  1. Mercedes-Benz (surprised it has been left out of many posts)

  2. BMW

  3. Lexus

  4. Volvo

  5. Audi

  6. Acura

  7. Infiniti

  8. Cadillac

left out the super luxury and rarer ones, like porsche/maserati (because I don’t have much experience with them but would consider.

For me though, anything below the “4” rank doesn’t get considered.

Mercedes models are awesome, but reliability is baaad. Any cars that combine Merc style with Japanese reliability? Tesla?
