Hi all,
I see everyone talking about Schweser being the best study guide for CFA Level 1. I was just wondering how many pages it is. The CFA curriculum is about 3500 pages and I was wondering if Schweser is much shorter? I was going to just use the curriculum to study but is that a bad idea? This is my first time taking Level 1 and I’m in my last semester of an undergraduate finance degree.
Thanks for any suggestions!
Well, the Curriculum is very extensive and many readings are optional, it has many cases, examples, and excersices inside the chapters. If you use the curriculum you will certainly learn a lot ! , the problem is the time and effort.
I prefered to go on Schweser books (1300 pags aprox) because I wanted to go directly to the LOS application and do not lose too much time. It worked for me, I passed with a respectable score. I’m preparing for L2 with Schweser too.

Harrogath,
How did you find Schweser for Economics? I’ve been struggling with the Economics readings, not going to lie!
Suggestions?
Thanks,
HB.
Schweser for Economics is good I think. You dont need to be a master in economics for the exam, just prepare the calculations you think can be present and take clear the critic definitions of each chapter. If you struggling in this book, practice lot of excersices, it will help very much!.

Thank you for the reply,
I am finding that a lot of examples in the curriculum text are very easy. I don’t feel these are very representative of the difficulty on the actual test. Perhaps I should go with Schweser just because as you said, it will save time. I just was reluctant to buy it if it’s going to be the same structure or longer.
Thanks for the help!
any major changes in Schweser books compared to DEc 2014? Should i buy new ones?
Just starting my study fr L1 with Alternative investments… Has Alt investments portion changed compared to 2014?
I don’t think major changes, but the chapters can change, desappear and new ones added. Search in google for 2015 CFA 1 curriculum changes, all third-party providers update their materials with this official changes.
Also check out the changes in weights of each topic (2014 to 2015). For expample, corporate finance weight has been decreased and Alternative Investments increased. This may help you to know how CFA institute is approaching its exam year to year.

Thanks @Harrogath, appreciate the feedback.
I think doing a lot more practice questions in this area will help a lot. Right now, I’m just doing the EOC questions and a 20 question QBANK per chapter.
