Level 3 study tips from a CFA chart holder

I figured that I may share some of tips after passing level 3 (I had first time pass on all exams and was granted CFA designiation last month)

  1. stick to the textbook all the time, if you have spare time, do all the sample questions again and again on the text book as it is the most useful reference you have;

  2. if you ask me whether the notes helpful, I would say, largely no ~~~~

  3. try to remember all the formula including the derivatives, you will find you may be passing simply cos of one question related to it;

  4. try to talk to someone who works in the asset managment industry as that would help you to understand some of the key concept;

  5. if you start now, you have plenty of time to review the text book at least twice, hopefully more , try to remember each sample question if you could;

  6. practics makes perfect ~~~~~~

  7. you need good luck :slight_smile:

I especially like the title of your post:

“Level 3 study tips from a CFA chart holder”

personally, I’m more of a mahogany type guy

where do you hold these charts?

i am in NZ, where passed all three level of exams and got my chart this year. working experience in corporate finance certainly helped me a bit in level 2 but not level3~~~

look at the fact that he is trying to help rather than poking fun at his english language skills.

you really brought a lot to this thread thanks for the givings

Agreed on the mahogany. That medium oak is well done though ill give them that.

i don’t like any of them… i don’t like the red tone on the finish. i rather them just a bit more raw looking or perhaps a grey tone finish?

He’s trying to help, but the I passed all exams first time part, really???

I think you might get better advice from someone who didn’t make it first time, learnt from the mistake and can point it out.

Aand in any case everyone’s study style is different find what works for you. Personally if I stuck to the CFA text and ignored the notes I think I might still be at level 1, I prefer condensed notes to get me into it and then I’ll use the book when I need more detail or another perspective.

Personal disclosure, I haven’t used the prescibed texts for any of the exams yet, although I do intend to at least look at the EoC and Blue boxes this time.

i appreciate the attempt to give advice, but was anything revealed that was not common sense/stuff we already know from taking the first two exams?
