Thanks, everyone!
Yes, she could have been injured much more severely. We’ve known people who have died and people who’ve been paraplegic from horseback riding accidents.

Thought of you today S2k, as horses became an unfortunate *near* casualty in the flash floods in Houston today.
Here is a video of a bunch of random people helping a horse to dry ground through the flooding

Speedy recovery to her
Pray for her healing and comfort.
That’s so painful to watch.
If I were there, I’d be the first one in the water to help them.
Horses are, in fact, remarkably good swimmers. (I’ve been swimming with horses.) But even the best swimmers cannot always survive flash floods.
thoughts and prayers
Just damn, Magician. You’ve had a couple of tough horse-related months. Praying for a quick and sure recovery.

Their feet are considerably below the surface of the water: 1.8 – 2 meters. You simply don’t dive deep.
If you ride a horse into deep water, you have to hang on to its mane tightly or you’ll get swept off; they can move very quickly through the water.

So without sound training one should never try this.

I wouldn’t recommend it.
