Lovesac

Despite the rather dubious name, I’m interested in these “Sactional” things. Anybody have any experience with these?

I had one. They are awesome.

We got our house in May but we lived in a small place before that so we were very broke with no furniture. We stopped in at the mall and saw them but they were pretty expensive and we weren’t going to have money for a couch anyways for about a year or so. The next day on the way to work I hear this ad on the radio about a Boston area give away to a couple contestants. I had to call customer service a few times to track down the giveaway, which was when I knew I had a chance. So I made a twitter account and sent my only two tweets, both couch related at lovesac. A few days later they got back to me and told me I won a free sactional worth like $4,500, but it had to be a zipcode in the city.

So I talked a coworker who’s just a few years out of college into letting me borrow his apartment for delivery. He says fine, but don’t let his landlord see it because he flips out. So me and my family go there the day of, clean the place so it’s not a bachelor pad, stage it with toys and baby stuff, move his couch into a side room and basically pretend to live there for the whole day. Do interviews for the camera crew, shoot some pictures, etc, while live texting photos back to work while my coworker is freaking out. Afterwards we were able to pack it up into my SUV and girlfriend’s car with the seats laid flat and take it home.

The product itself is really nice and our 15 month old LOVES crawling around on it because we connect two units to the front to basically make it a mini bouncy bed for her. The mini u table drink holder on the end is awesome too. So right now we have 5 bases and I’d like to expand it to 6 and be able to make a miniaturized version of the moon pit when company isn’t over for maximum movie night lounging. You can rearrange I forget how many bases (which are memory foam) into a queen sized mattress and they have a thin pad that goes overtop to eliminate the bumpiness. We also plan on doing that so we can have a temporary guest queen bed if needed in addition to the one in the guest room.

So it sounds like:

  1. They’re comfortable enough to sleep on and sit on and lounge on,
  2. They actually work like they say they’ll work.

Is that correct?

How difficult is it to change the layout? Is it a PITA? Or can it be done pretty quickly? (EG - I normally want it to be a couch, but I’ll change it to the queen bed layout when I have company over. Does that take two minutes? Two hours?)

Never heard of them before. We have a traditional sectional from Pottery Barn that my wife took forever to choose.

It takes two minutes to rearrange. We do it all the time. But one ding I have against them is that they’re not as deep and comfortable as say a sectional from crate and barrel or pottery barn. Make sure you really sit on one first in the couch setup and make sure you’re ok with that aspect of it. I do love our sactional, but if I could change something I’d make it about six inches deeper. Also, if it’s going to see a ton of wear you may want to browse their material selections with that in mind. That being said, the tweed (which is not one of their more durable materials) has held up pretty well so far (although it’s still newish) and while we haven’t had to wash any covers yet, being able to do so is a nice plus. In addition, if you ever decide to redecorate, swapping the covers is pretty easy as well.

I’m trying to figure out the use for the 2x deep setup. So far, I can only conclude that it is to make an opium bed.

That’s basically it. A lot of their furniture really starts to shine when just say f*ck it and go for comfort and setup the bases 2x deep. I did see a setup in the store where they basically took the 2x setup but used a side to put a dividing wall between them so that it became a really pimp lounger for a movie room.

If you don’t have a bidet and an opium bed, you really haven’t made it in America these days.

Living the American dream.
