President Trump touched down in Puerto Rico, and promptly took a metaphorical crap all over the hurricane-ravaged island.
Trump, flanked by Melania and the island’s Gov. Ricardo Rossello , held a news conference and fielded questions which is when he actually said, “I hate to tell you Puerto Rico, but you’ve thrown our budget a little out of whack.”
He went on to ask Gov. Rossello what the death count was following Hurricanes Irma and Maria – and said they hadn’t been hit by “a real catastrophe like Katrina.” Watch the video … it’s every bit as cringeworthy as it sounds.
Oh by the way, nearly half the U.S. territory is still without power or running water.
“If you look at a real catastrophe like Katrina and you look at the tremendous hundreds and hundreds and hundreds that died . . . 16 people [in Puerto Rico] versus in the thousands [in Louisiana], you can be very proud of all your people, all our people,” Trump said. “Everybody around this table and everybody watching could be very proud of what has taken place in Puerto Rico.”
“What’s happened in terms of recovery, in terms of saving lives - 16 lives that’s a lot - but if you compare that to the thousands of people who died in other hurricanes that frankly were not nearly as severe.”
How many times do I have to say the same thing? Trump says and does enough stupid stuff for real, you don’t have to make s h it up to make him look bad.
The budget statement was full on dumb. Although poorly worded and disjointed in annoying Trump fashion, the comparison to other storms was meant to be rightful praise for the people of Puerto Rico and the efforts of responders.
It’s just not a relevant comparison. The reason Katrina was so devastating from a loss of life standpoint is that a large portion of a major urban area was under six feet of water for several days because it’s a city built under the sea level and its levee system failed. A more relevant comparison would have been a major storm that mostly impacted Florida like Hurricane Andrew and even then there are other variables at play such as denser population centers being affected. In other words, it’s just dumb to compare the outcomes of two different natural disasters.
You are definitely one of my favorite posters on here. If I hadn’t been familiar with your postings long before Trump ran for president, I’d think that you were a troll. Your fanatical posts are the best. THE BEST!
I like how, in the middle of the Puerto Rico address, he went on a tangent about the F35 jet and how great it is because it can destroy enemies before they even see it. It’s great to have a President who is consistent in his message about making America great throughout all circumstances.
