Morningstar interview - sell side

Hi everyone, I know 90% of the time when I do rarely post on AF- have been unhelpful. So its a big ask to ask you guys for any advice regarding a graduate program for Morningstar, the research agency. About the role: sell-side Research, hiring 1 or 2 graduates for a certain city in Asia-Pacific region - I’m assuming its extremely competitive. 4 years graduate program: 2 years learning soft skills, then getting into the hard skills. About me: Graduated 07, I’m a part-qualified actuary & written LII CFA. Less than 1 yr of BO and Actuarial experience. *What questions would I be likely in a sell side capacity? (i don’t have vault.com access…) *Any tips you can give me? Thanks all in advance.

Do you speak the language of the country? Do you have a graduate degree (I would assume a ‘graduate’ program would require a graduate degree)? DO you know what industry you would cover? If so, learn those industry drivers and major names. How is your writing? Would it be done in English? How is your modeling? You may have to take an exam. As an aside, does anyone know what Morningstar pays at the associate and analyst levels in Chicago or any other office?

Just wait for Farley to come along, I am sure then you will get GREAT, long-winded, advice.

I have a BCom, with majors in actuarial and finance equivalent to a U.S. Bachelors’ degree. Relatively good excel modelling skills from experience in my actuarial internship - product investigation on interest rate sensitivity- I had to build from scratch a working spreadsheet of a life insurance product, such that once you enter inputs (age, sex, smoking status, etc. it then vlookup mortality tables, interest rate tables) and cash flows will be generated. I have a background knowledge of VBA…writing mini programs. Native speaker of English, Industry would be Resources probably Asia Pacific region (Sydney). Do you have to be a investor/trader to get a job? - shownig you have a understanding of markets and passion for finance. I do a little investing, but nothing I am confident enough to brag about at my age 21.
