Based on the difficulty of this past level 3 exam, my instinct is that the passing score is lower than it is for previous levels. Especially seeing some people score what looks like a 50% in the AM and still pass. I know no MPS is every constant and is test-specific, was wondering if there is any common consensus on the direction of the MPS as you progress through the levels?
MPS by level - level 1 close to 70. Level 2 - averaging 64-67. Level 3 - averaging 55-60 (max60). Level 3 morning sessions are marked very strictly ppl score very poorly that what they think that they did in the exam . These inputs are from an authentic source
A max of 60 seems low to me, granted I pray that it’s true, but for 1 and 2, I think from what we have seen from past results, your ranges seem pretty on target
Actually the marking for morning exam is very tough - they have to lower mps to around 57-58 to get a pass rate above 50 or close to 50 . This information is from one of the persons who directly involved in standard setting for CFA exams !
boy i hope this is true! there will be many happy AF members
Chances are very higher for some one to pass when they mess up with morning and scored very high in the afternoon . But whoever thinks they made it in the morning and felt evening was tough , chances are lower. It’s coz morning exam marking is tough , only half the candidates get above 50 it seems ! Anyway finally luck matters
Dirar, good analysis and your numbers seem to be sensible to me. However, although many people have said that if someone felt morning was easy but afternoon was difficult, he probably has less chance to pass, I don’t totally agree to this point.
The morning session of this past exam was not too difficult in terms of content. In terms of time management, this morning session was tough, and very tough.
The afternoon session was definitely more difficult in the sense that one needed to think more carefully in order to get the correct answer.
I have to say, both sessions were tough and given the harsh marking standards for the morning session, we will probably get much poorer results from the morning session.
We shall wait and see! Good luck to all.
totally agree with magictiger
Who cares what the mps is? Prepare like its 100%.
I agree that it appears from the past that the morning is graded toughly. That would mean the distributions of scores is less than the afternoon. People who did well in the morning may just be in the mid 60’s and people who did poorly are in the low 50’s. Afternoon distributions will be much more widely distributed. That implies if you do really well in the afternoon it probably less matters how you did in the morning.
